Just when you thought we were done
Hot on the heels of revealing a retrospective video of Sonic’s history, and more screens of Metal Sonic and Chemical Plant Zone, Sega have also decided to provide another dose of nostalgia by revealing the designs for Classic and Modern Tails. Initially they will look very similar, but on closer comparison you will definitely see the differences between the two models (though they are certainly more subtle than Sonic’s).
Also, we have now had confirmation of the 3DS boxart. While different from the console version (and potentially the PC version), it shouldn’t be too surprising for those who have been following the progress of the game.

Gosh I love Tails!!! And I don’t really care if he nearly looks the same in classic or modern form…. he’s still the cutest fox I ever saw!
I wonder what they have in store for him in this game. I hope they do him justice, being — as important — as Sonic, in the Sonic franchise! (Yeah, I just said that!)

Classic tails was orange, and I always preferred that to his unnatural yellow… but I’m with Blippa in that it’s not too big of a deal.
God his classic model looks just SO much better though… it’s just so much more well-proportioned, if nothing else.
Anyone notice the light blue straps below the folds of Classic Tails’ socks?

Now if we could only see Classic Amy Rose. I mean, she HAS to show up at the end of the Metal Sonic boss fight. It’s in Stardust Speedway and that’s the same place you rescue her when you reach the end of the race in Sonic CD. Plus, I’d just like to see her reaction if she ever sees Modern Sonic at all. lol!
In fact… Where is Modern Sonic if Classic’s in the Metal Sonic race?

His shoes are different? his eyes color changed? Tails hasn’t really had a radical change in design.

Modern Tails’ pose is from some 2D artwork from Sonic Advance 3.
Well all be…he’s actually yellow instead of his orangish box art color or his brownish AoSTH/Sat am counterparts…which I actually like…also does the CGI artwork for the classic tails model look familiar…to me it does…someone correct me because I do not know…
I know that the the Classic Sonic design is from an early Sonic 1 picture of Sonic (I think), Modern Sonic is the design (I think) of the Classic Collection for the DS and the modern Tails design is from Advance 3 (…I think lol)….but I can’t place the Classic Tails picture if it is based off an older design…help? lol

Three things:
* Getting all the classic characters with classic design is totally awesome!!
* I don´t know if the game will be good, but graphically I REALLY REALLY hope we get a PC version after all, this DESERVES to be seen at 1080p 60fps. Seriously.
* Loving Chemical Plant and Stardust Speedway.
Now I´m a lot happier about this game!!

Awww classic tails was just too cute though wasn’t classic tails orange? Eh whatever i am still glad to see tails in this game too both of them.
Classic Tails looks adorable while his Modern look dons a bright smile.
As for the 3DS version, it’s just plain crap comapred to the PS3/360 versions. But it’s Dimps we’re talking about, people.

Hey did anyone realise the additional effects (don’t know how to explain it but it’s the zigzag stuff) is white for the console versions and blue for the 3DS version? In Japan, the console versions are called Sonic Generations: White Time and Space, while the 3DS version has the subtitle Blue Adventures. Coincidence? Just thought I’d point that out…

ummm…. yeaaaa i like Modern Tails better, however that being said, classic tails doesn’t look very classic, his hair was thicker in the classic games, and he was a little darker o.O
…… am i the only one frightened to see classic Amy XD, though i’m sure HD will make her look better, but still, that OUTFIT XD

Wow they hardly look different at all. xD Tho Modern Tails’ proportions look a bit more reasonable. Classic Tails’ arms and legs look almost useless like there’s no room for knees or elbows. xD
The color looks the same too but that’s cool cuz TECHNICALLY it never changed. Except in Sonic Heroes. It was a yellow-orange color due to the “Red, blue, yellow” deal. But he was always orange one way or another. And in the last 2 games he was in, they made him more “orangish” anyways. So it makes sense for them to be the same.
lol they remembered the bucklies on Tails’ ankles. Modern Tails has them too but they’re black and the buckle itlself isn’t there. Same for the wrists. Suprised not many ppl noticed Tails’ socks and gloves were slightly different from Sonic’s. =P
Seeing Classic and Modern Tails next to each other is so much more awesome to me than seeing both Sonics (at Ohayou Con, I even bought a Classic Tails doll to match my old Modern one). It made me so nostalgic that I went on a 4 hour long Sonic artwork hunt. So many memories…
I hope they do artwork of classic eggman and modern eggman as well

YES! They actually included classics tails–way to go Sega. Though I still prefer his more orange-ish coloring, that’s just me being picky. I’ve always loved the classic design of tails over his newer iterations–sure, there aren’t any major differences, but there are subtle changes that, in my opinion, definitely create a better and more unique/memorable/likable design.
Whether generations actually plays well or not, you gotta admit, it’s going to be the geek-out experience of a life time. Can. Not. Wait.
Hey, just realized, there is only going to one Shadow, one (Classic) Metal Sonic, and one Silver. There is going to be 2 Sonics, 2 Tails, and most likely 2 Robotniks/Eggmen. But what about the other Hub World characters? Will there be a Classic Knuckles, Classic Amy, what about a Classic Rouge, Classic Cream, Classic Blaze, or a Classic Chaotix (Espio, Vector, Charmy)????? They like Tails will appear twice during the Hub World Missions, once for Classic Sonic’s missions, and again for Modern Sonic. Or is it that Classic and Modern Tails are more special than everyone else, like the only ones in cutscenes… Most likely, there will be a Classic Knuckles and a Classic Amy, but the other characters will only have one character model, while these 3 will have 2…
Not that it will actually happen, but I’d love to see classic Vector again. I love that lanky lizard

I don’t know why you’re all whining about Classic Tails not being orange. Unless you’re all color-blind or something, he looks pretty orange in this picture to me!
It’s more of that Modern Tails got kinda yellowish and that started in Sonic Heroes. Yes, in SA2 he got a bit more yellowing but that was mroe of a gold-orange color. In Heroes he was a bit more yellow due to the “red, blue, yellow” thing going on as primary colors and Sonic and Knuckles already being blue and red.
But since then, he’s gotten more and more orange again each game. In Sonic Riders he’s pretty orange and in the recent modern games he’s orange. Compare Modern Tails here to him in another game where he’s more yellowish. It makes sense for them to be the same color now.
On the boxart of Sonic 3, Tails’ color looks pretty close to his color in this. It’s not EXACT but that’s cuz it’s different artwork. Classic Sonic is WAY Too light blue in Generations compared to how he was in the classic games only due to SOME of his Classic Artwork being lighter blue. They probably did it cuz Adventure Sonic was much darker. Cuz since the Adventure series, Modern Sonic got lighter too and personally I think should be the same color as Classic Sonic right now. Some of the Classic artwork was darker blue and the sprites for Sonic 2 and S3&K were like the same color as Modern Sonic. xP
I’m readly to see Classic and Modern Knuckles, Amy and Eggman. But mostly Knuckles and Eggman. Amy had a big change and probably will show due to still being in the series as well as the classic version, but she’s not that big a deal so I’m not that curious. xD Her model’s kinda predictable. xD

If a bunch of people say something is one color and one guy (you) say he’s another, I would think the odd one out would be the one considered colorblind.
He has an itsy bit of an orange tint, I guess, but so does modern Tails. I suppose the problem is that they look virtually the same in color, whereas classic and modern Sonic sport a pretty obvious difference, despite not necessarily being historically accurate.
The only reason it bugs me is the fact that I’ve always hated how yellow Tails has grown over the years. Classic OR modern, yellow just doesn’t suit him, so it’s kind of a shame to see classic Tails’ orange fur to be so watered down to match his uglier yellow counterpart.
Tails should have his own (non portable) game. One can only dream.

Come to think it, you’re right. Tails has gotten more yellow in recent years. To be honest, he’s kinda hard too see on a TV screen with his yellow fur sometimes. Orange suits him much better.
