Developer Asks If It’s “Worth Finishing”
Admitting that what we know and have played of Sonic Generations “filled that gap I was trying to fill myself,” Sonic Classic creator Hez on Thursday admitted that while a sequel to the fan game is in the works, he’s lacked any motivation to get it done.
So, he took to the audience of Sonic Retro seeking input, and brought along a concept video and a screenshot fusing Sonic CD’s special stage environment with S3&K’s blue spheres for the ride. Hez explains the potential sequel’s storyline:
Tails and Knuckles have been captured (O NOES), and Sonic is out to save them. Along the way he can use Knuckles and Tails powers by hitting a monitor or power up post. From a design point, this makes level design a hell of a lot easier for me, only having to think of one character. Oh, there are also a crap ton of new shields too.
You can watch the video showing off those power-ups in action below.

Sonic’s sprite looks . . . off.
Damn. I thought this was going to be a Sonic Generations video.
. . .
Cool concept for the knuckles powerup though . . . .
Maybe we’ll get a new trailer in the next two days. . .
I smell Wisp influeces…
The Tails and Knuckles powerups sound like something I think might be used in Sonic Generations.
Sonic’s sprite looks high or something. The bottom part of the eyes looks really awkward, not to mention they also look pinkish.
Looks like a short Modern Sonic
Those powerups are badass nonetheless
finish it? HELL YEAH! that looks awesome!
Wow….not to be a critic, but SonicRetro sucks at making Classic Sonic games.
1. THE MUSIC ISN’T EVEN MEMORIZABLE.
2. The stage looks crappy.
3. THAT’S NOT EVEN C. SONIC! IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE RAN OVER HIS FACE.
4. Making Sonic have his design while using a tails or knuckles power up, makes sonic look fu*king retarded. They should have at least put in a costume.
5. The sprites ARE off.
6. Sonic doesn’t even spin his legs right. Its looks like he twisted them together, while still running.
Heh..and I thought Sonic Retro were awsome at making Classic Sonic look good…MY A**!!
Quit being a typical fan developer and finish the product you started.
darkgomugomu: Allow me to lend a hand in agreement. The maker of the game should definately finish this!
Amazing ideas in this hack!!
@ Jakeiiii
This is not a hack. A fan made game. Read the title.

Well, I like this game idea. I think I would play it. Especially the power ups.
@Rickyardo
A single fan game not to your liking doesn’t mean the entire whole of the community sucks at anything. Retro is a community, not a company. Retro doesn’t make anything really, they have individual members that do. Members with varying levels of skill and all kinds of different tastes in games.
Also, if you’re going to use swear words, there’s no point in editing them with one or two asterisks. That’s fuck*ng r*tard*d.
(EDIT – Inflammatory -T)
@ChaoticFox – Notice how i said “not to be a critic” I was just pointing out some things. Thats all. I have nothing against this game. And i like using asterisks because i dont like actual swearing.
@Rickyardo.
Go ahead and be a critic, no one’s stopping you. Don’t try and say “I have nothing against this game” after making a goddamn list of its faults, lol.
The point I was trying to make is that it was stupid of you to blame the whole of Retro for this particular game’s shortcomings. Blame the creator, not the community he chose to share it with. You can hate the crap out of the game itself, for all I care XD
I’m also going to go ahead and reiterate that the asterisk thing is retarded. Either swear like a real man or find a legitimate replacement for the word. Everyone knows what you’re trying to say, so it’s not like you’re gaining any moral high ground by omitting a letter or two. I don’t what kind of twisted logic leads you to believe that “f*ck” is less offensive than “fuck”, but you should probably try to rethink that until it actually makes some kind of sense.
Hey Brian gets his own fan game LOL. Well sorta…
@Rickyardo: Wow, it’s… Totally noticeable that you’ve never played Sonic Classic 1, nor Sonic Fan Remix, nor Sonic Megamix series, nor have ever heard of Sonic 2 HD. If you did, you’d keep your mouth shut.
Anyway, I… Don’t like this one very much. The ideas are creative, but Sonic’s sprite is pretty creepy-looking, and the music doesn’t sound anywhere near as good as Sonic Classic 1′s. Eh, maybe it’s just preliminary, generic music that’ll get scrapped later on, once there’s a better soundtrack. And I do hope they change the sprite, it looks off.
@Tatsumaki – Why dont you make me shut up? I can do whatever i want, so shut the fuck up. And yes, ive played Sonic 1, Sonic Fan Remix, WTF is megamix series? THats not even a SEGA game fucker, And yes ive heard of Sonic 2 HD, it looks good. And if ive never played the original Sonic the Hedgehog, then how do i know about MEMORABLE MUSIC, and that the Sonic’s long leg spin is from CD, Hmmm?? again, shut the fuck up, you dont even know me.
And telling from your name, your a Naruto fan. nuff said
@Tatsumaki – Hi, I just tried out that game that was talking about, Sonic Classic. I never knew about it before!! But i just have one question, how do you save??? I thought it automatically saves!
i played through 4 zones, and didnt save
do u know how to save? It would help me out alot!
@Rickyardo The Sonic Megamix games are hacks/fangames of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. There’s actually pretty good IMO.
yeah, what rickyrick said, how do you save sonic classic?
@Rickyardo – Maybe you cant :/
@Rickyardo
First, he said Sonic ‘Classic’ 1, not Sonic The Hedgehog 1,
Second, How does typing that you know about (as you put it originally) “MEMORIZABLE” music, validate that you played Sonic 1, or vice versa? And Sonic’s “long leg spin”? You mean the Super Peel Out move? Which was only in Sonic CD, and is relatively famous enough to be common knowledge for most Sonic Fans?
Third, How does Tatsumaki’s name automatically make him a Naruto fan? It could be a Street Fighter reference for all you know! And what the h*ll does being a Naruto fan have anything to do with this discussion?!
Fourth, ChaoticFox, and Tatsumaki are right; Sonic Retro didn’t make this. Hez did. Also, making statements like, and I quote “Heh..and I thought Sonic Retro were awsome at making Classic Sonic look good…MY A**!!” and “And yes, ive played Sonic 1, Sonic Fan Remix, WTF is megamix series? THats not even a SEGA game fucker” gives heavy implications that you really don’t know what you’re talking about, at all…
@Rickyardo
Who shoved a badnik up your asshole? Jesus, chill out.
Also, try READING before you reply. It helps with the whole lack of comprehension thing
Good level design (although it’s mostly Sonic CD. Palmtree panic GF with the mountains and oceans, and past with the palmtrees crowding up the background, Quartz Quadrant Present with the crystals and “city-like” area behind the mountains. And Sonic the hedgehog. Green Hill Zone trees, totem poles, checkerboard ground, bridges, and waterfalls), but the more I look at the sprites, the more astounded I am at how Sega was able to make great looking sprites back in the 90s (and even 80s) and we still can’t help but mess them up nowdays in the 2010s XD Oh well. . . They actually don’t look ALL that bad if you think about it. Not defending it.
When is # 2 coming out??
So. . It’s unanimous. . fix the sprites and we’ll talk XD
And Tristan, not to be a bother, but has there been any news on Comic-Con? They said more info and teasers were coming for Sonic (and Megaman, but, I’m not really interested in Megaman. . )
Not interested in MEGA MAN? GASPING BLASPHEMY!
@ChaoticFox: Eh. To each his own XD
I like how people are focusing on sprites alone. I mean fuck having the game work properly and have the right physics and gameplay, GOTTA HAVE DEM SPRITES
@Darkgomugomu:
Hate to break it to you, but it’s not just the sprites o.o Look at when Sonic’s on the swing (spaz attack) But I bet they’ll fix that. . .
