…Uh Oh
To be fair, when people deliberately go looking for glitches, anomalies, and the like, more often than not they will find what they are looking for.
What we’re about to show you may be no different, but still may be of concern for the most discriminating Sonic fans, especially those still reeling from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I. It was found by scener 1stKirbyever, and it’s at the very end of the clip below. As several videos from Sonic 4 also demonstrate, Classic Sonic speeds up a hill, and comes to a stop…right in the middle of the incline, defying gravity.
We wouldn’t point it out if it weren’t such a sticking point for so many veteran Sonic fans with Sonic 4–fans who, to this point, have generally been satisfied with how Generations controls. There’s also this caveat: The anomaly is from the Green Hill Zone demo released in June, from a still early build of the game, and is subject to change. Of course, many fans will argue that same song and dance was performed when anomalies like this were seen in the infamous PartnerNET leak of Sonic 4 last year, with little changed in the end.

“We wouldn’t point it out if it weren’t such a sticking point for so many veteran Sonic fans with Sonic 4–fans who, to this point, have generally been satisfied with how Generations controls.”
SO IN OTHER WORDS…
We decided to direct attention to a minor flaw in Generations rather than ignoring it… because we know if we point it out ppl are gonna stop being satisfied due to their hatred of it in Sonic 4?
So by posting this video and pointing out this flaw, is this one’s decloration that they don’t really support Sonic Generations and WANT people to see minor flaws to pointlessly gripe over? It’s like saying “Hey, you liked Generations so far? Not bad like Sonic 4? Well look at this! A MINOR FLAW THAT’S ALSO IN SONIC 4! WHERE’S YOUR GOD NOW!” or soemthing. x.x
SCREW IT. This isn’t even really a flaw. Who gives a crap? They can’t mimmick the original physics purposely and it’s a 3D game. There are bound to be some glitches. All games have them. It’s impossible not to. And this looks practically like something you HAVE to do. It almost looks like a glitch trick to me. Big freakin deal. I played Classic Green Hill Zone in the demo myself with NO PROBLEMS! And I will continue to play the level the way I did, with NO PROBLEMS when the game comes out. So I don’t even have to worry about these glitches. This is only a problem for those who WANT to find trouble. And if you go looking for stuff like this, be happy you found it and stop complaining. Otherwise just play the game like an average customer. XD
not every game isnt perfect Tristan…. especially at an early build. and yes i am complaining bc u just did a glitch post like yesterday and the vid its self i think ive seen a while ago….
so stop with these…. please.
we dont know whats going on with the game development, but im sure they WILL be fixed. but there is always gonna be people who look for glitches.
they are actually vary fun to find <=D
Based on this comment section, I see a lot of people here aren’t fussing about this glitch the way many, myself included, would’ve thought.
AAaaaanyway I know there were probably good intentions in this that just turned out wrong.
And it’s nice to see that MOST of the people here except for ChaoticFox are level-headed enough to blow this off. XD (Did he call the original games’ programming and physics “flawless”?… The hell? The original games had minor physics changes each game cuz there were still some flaws. I get that it was momentum based but it was a little TOO momentum based. And it was only momentum based because of stuff like loops and ramps. Otherwise no one cares. You wanna move right, hold right. Wanna move left, hold left. Simple as that. I don’t recall playing the old games and spazzing out by how perfectly precise the movements were…. especially when I aimed one way and it went too far, not far enough, or acted too “slippery”. XD)
I guess it would help to remember that Sonic Generations is built from the Unleashed physics (That considered, they did really good getting as close to Classic Sonic as they did, especially in the same game that also has Modern Sonic 3D gameplay). And it might also help to notice Sonic Generations is a 3D game… with 3D models and levels physically around each other. xD
@ Foxboy
I lol’d at your first long post XD
And, I agree with you. What’s the point pointing out the smallest flaws?
^So beta testing is not playing like a normal human being? clap clap clap…
It’s Spider-Hog! xD
“Blind optimism is not so kind for the franchise, buddy.”
~QuietGuy
That’s exactly my point.
Foxboy, what the hell? I’m one of the many saying it’s not a big deal, and I’ve even been laughing at how many people ARE taking it too seriously. Learn to fucking read, douche.
I never said the older games were perfect or flawless, but I think it’s fair to say that the physics system virtually was. Sonic’s movement rarely had ANY problems, even if other elements of the game did.
The games weren’t just momentum based because of loops and ramps… the games were momentum based because Sonic’s ONLY ABILITY WAS ROLLING, and a rolling ball without proper physics or momentum would have been a goddamn joke.
And that last bit about 3D models? Yeah, I already said that IN DEFENSE of the glitch. Seriously, read up or shut up.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Seriously Tristan, fuck off.
Some of you guys are blowing this just as much out of proportion as you accuse Tristan of doing. If it’s not a big deal, let it not be a big deal. Some people might see it as one, and those people deserve to know. This is a news website, not a hype website.
You know…the time lock isn’t working too well is it?
Well Tristan, I have to say, this has to be one of your most successful articles yet.
Seriously?! What a ridiculous POS article. This kinda junk just doesn’t write itself, eh?!
A Magic Trick…….WOW……Oh come on people CRY ME A RIVER who cares honestly…These glitches can be fixed…I don’t care about a disappearing Buzz Bomber, I don’t care if Sonic can stay stuck on a wall HELL I WISH I COULD DO THAT BIG WHOOP
For gods sake…..this can be easily fixed why are people making such a big deal out of this…Iknow Kirby was joking but everyone else? man what was the point of all this COME ONE it’s just…. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH *head explodes*
I feel a little outnumbered in my opinion on the matter, but whether I’m siding with the commentors or Tristan is something I could care less for. However, I would like more information on this. The video cuts off just as Sonic resumes his standing animation- does he slowly walk backwards afterwards? Can you easily walk up or are you forced back down? Can you spindash?
Foxboy – I agreed with this portion of your comment, but I was surprised you leaped in an entirely different direction once I read further: “We decided to direct attention to a minor flaw in Generations rather than ignoring it… ” You said it yourself, it IS a flaw,, and it’s in our best interest as gamers to “direct attention” to it so that SEGA knows of the issue that could be exploited in its actual release.
That’s not to say the Genesis games were perfect. Everything from screen-wrapping(looking down next to an ice barrier in the Ice Cap Zone then spindashing, warping in front of it) to sliding through walls while ascending select ramps in the entire series, minor flaws can be found throughout. Sonic Generations isn’t released yet, so this gives us, the fans, a chance to make this game as awesome as we hope it to be.
K-Y – Again, people’s logic confuses the hell out of me sometimes. You said it yourself, “These glitches can be fixed,” but ONLY if we bring attention to it! Ignoring the minor flaw doesn’t change anything. We’re not programmers(assuming), nor do we work for Sonic Team, so unless you know a way to get the code to Sonic Team needed to fix the problem, all we can do is bring attention to flaws, and comparatively, good points to the temporary demo in hopes Sonic Team or SEGA listens.
It’s saddening to me that all this drama is going on on the last remaining Sonic site I visit. You don’t like the article? Voice your opinion(intellectually..). You don’t like Tristan? Why are you here!?
oh god -.-
people are gonna be bitching again..
Uh-oh? God, I’m really beginning to dislike you, Tristan. You should be a little more unbiased with your articles. There are those of us who happen to love Sonic 4 and don’t see the big deal about Sonic stopping on his way up a ramp. Idiot fanboys who love modern Sonic make big deals over the smallest things. I would hardy call this game breaking.
*Poof*
@Ceejus: As if you’re one to talk about other people being biased.
@ushroM
Who the hell beta-tests a game when it releases? No that’s not like a normal human being! You can play the demo and give feedback but it’s not your job to HUNT for glitches. I mean I guess it can be helpful if it’s a big deal but if it’s a glitch you had to provoke then what the hell were you doing in the first place? I mean this guy said he was just showing off a buzzbomber glitch cuz it was weird. So he makes sense. But if someone actually goes and posts vids to mess around it’s like “Man you’re obsessed” xD Those are the kinda things you do AFTER beating the game. Little extra stuff. xD
@ChaoticFox
“Learn to fucking read, douche.”
First off, calm down. xD
Secondly, I know it’s a figure of speech but how the hell am I supposed to learn to read if I can’t read in order to tell that this is what you’re requesting me to do! D8
Third, I DID read. Just because you misinterpretted what I was referring to doesn’t mean I deserve your insults. Man, online videogame fans can be vicious. :I
And you know the entire comment wasn’t even directed toward you. If you paid attention to what you read you’d probably use your common sense to realize that the model defense was just my own words. My only remarks towards you were what you said about Sonic 4 and the classics. Quit being such a “douche” and stop getting angry and defensive over a videogame. =p The internet shouldn’t get you this worked up. Just chilll maaaan. XD
@ChaoticFox
ANYHOO, If I upset or offended you… my bad. XD I didn’t think (at the time) that my comment would be taken as an actual attack on anyone.
But still, I don’t think the classics were perect. I think it was far from it. But it was good enough. =) And actually, I know you probably agree, I’m just saying this, I really like Classic Sonic’s physics in Generations. xD As soon as you pick it up it feels like you’ve already played it before. :3
@IceHedge
Actually I was just “translating” what was said in the article. XD But I guess I would call it a flaw as it is probably not something that was meant to happen. But it’s also a flaw hard to find unless you just HAPPEN to find it on accident. I don’t think when they were scanning for flaws they would’ve even thought to check if this flaw existed cuz they probably didn’t do anything that’d cause it or think of it. xD It’s hard to catch a flaw you can’t even imagine until it happens. lol Besides there’s no such thing as “flawless” (aka “perfect”). All games have glitches even if minor ones or ones hard to find. I called this not a “flaw” but a “minor flaw”, as in it is a flaw that doesn’t really need to be noticed and doesn’t really help the game to fix as it doesn’t hurt the game either. o.O Sonic 1′s speed-death glitch is worse by far. XD And hell, some glitches are bad. Some are neutral. Some are good tho and even fun. It’s called a “Flaw” because it’s a crack in the programming somewhere but it’s not really a flaw in flaw in that it’s hurtful. I’m sure I’m not supposed to be able to float around Chao Garden in SA2 with Sonic and Shadow but it’s fun to. xD And I don’t think getting rid of that glitch would make the game “more awesome”. It’d be more correct I guess but it’s just as awesome or more to float around. ;D
Anyhoo, if you have to “bring attention to flaws”, then that means the flaw wasn’t in the way in the first place and bringing attention to t hem just feels like one is being “negative” unless they’re bringing attention to them for the mere fun of it. Especially knowing this flaw likely won’t be fixed or can’t (without certain requirements that conditionally cannot be met).
-facepalm-
At least 3/4 of your comment was directed at me or something I’ve said (seriously, you only wrote like 3 other sentences). I’m not getting vicious over a video game, I’m getting vicious over your complete and total ignorance evidenced by your comments regarding my opinions and my character. I’ve been perfectly level-headed about this entire thing, tyvm, and I feel like if you had actually read anything I’ve said on this article, you would have seen that. The first sentence of my reply was “what the hell?” because attaching my name to your comment seemed to come completely out of nowhere.
Finally, I will agree with you (AGAIN) that the classics are not perfect… though I never once said that they were. I still maintain that the physics system was pretty damn close though, and it would be nothing but a blessing to see the one in Generations improved on, fun as it may be already. I think everyone can agree with that, right?
There’s “good enough” and then there’s “great” – what’s so wrong with pushing for the latter? It’s not like I’m one of the people saying FIX THEM OR THIS GAME IS SHIT. I’m positive I’ll still be able to enjoy the game regardless, but that’s no excuse for complacency.
Well, we don’t know the extent of how exploitable or hazardous this could get. Green Hill Zone is fairly straight forward with a few multiple tiers here and there, but the ultimate goal is to get from the left side of the map to the right. Being able to stand on a ramp poses many questions that I’d love answers to. Can you simply walk straight up after that point? Since the video cut off right as this happens, is Sonic forced to slowly walk back down? Can you spindash while standing vertically? If so does it take in to account the momentum you would have when rolling up a ramp from its base?
Sure, this flaw could be considered minor, but to speed runners and completionists, this could be their winning ace. What if you CAN spindash from a ramp like that and get twice as momentum as you would have otherwise? What if similar flaws are found that give speed runners an edge over regular Sonic players?
The only reason I stress the importance of minor flaws is because most don’t seem to see the negative affects this could have if Sonic Team doesn’t get this game as polished as possible. Yes, if Generations plays as well as the demo did, then we have little to worry about in terms of casual play, but when it comes to competiting in the leaderboards only to find that there’s one or multiple time-changing exploitable glitches(read: taking advantage of an oversight in programming), then at least for me, this game would be a whole lot less fun.
You know, I’m probably making a mistake by sticking my head into this mess, but here goes anyway:
I’m continually surprised by the number of people here who not only feel they have a right to judge tristan for his choice and/or deliverance of an article, but also seem to expect him to give a crap about what they say and heed their wise advice. The way I see it, everyone’s entitled to an opinion, whether it’s of a sonic game or how this site is run. There’s just one issue:
This isn’t your site.
It’s tristan’s; he’s the one the created it, the one who has kept it running for years. No one else (not including the rest of the tssz staff). I’m not the police here, but how about a little respect? You may not think he’s given any respect in some article he’s written that you’re angry about, but what’s that to anyone here? It doesn’t affect you. If tristan wants to be the biggest jerk on the block, who gives: he’ll pay the price accordingly when things like site hits and rep take a beating.
He doesn’t need anyone shoving their righteous judgments down his throat every time someone thinks he’s crossed a line of theirs. If you don’t like it than get out, I say. Or else, if it really bothers you, then write personally to tristan, rather than trying to show yourself up and putting him down. Actually, privately messaging him would probably have more affect, if people here REALLY cared about the things which they judge him for.
Look, I’m not the internet police–it’s tristan’s job to monitor comments. But I gotta say, all the wasted breath I’ve seen on long, indignant reproaches of his behavior have made me sick. Seriously, it’s not your site, you haven’t walked in his shoes, so stop telling him how to run it. There, rant’s over, for now.
One last thing: this has nothing to do with how I personally view tristan or his site. And that’s the point–I have a right to an opinion, but no right to tell him how he should run his site or write his articles. That’s his business, not mine.
