Related Press Events Canceled, “Security Concerns” Cited

GamesCom, Europe’s premier gaming expo, will open in about two weeks’ time.  One major project expected for the show, however, will remain out of the show’s spotlight.

A report from the website ConceivablyTech says Nintendo has canceled anything and everything related to the upcoming Wii U console for the show.  Press events meant to show off the console have been canceled, and Nintendo will only cite security concerns as the reason.

The Wii U was first shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June to an initial warm response that quickly waned.  Nintendo has also blundered this year with the launch of Nintendo 3DS, announcing a price cut amid poor sales and support of the device.

Sega is among a handful of developers who have signed on to support the new Nintendo console.
