Easier to Use, GP2X Now an Option

Engine02 developer Stealth wrote into TSSZ this weekend to tell us he’s released a new version of the game engine, commonly known as E:02.

The Linux based GP2X WIZ is now among the engine’s many compatible platforms, and there are several new script commands for the system.  The Tile editor was also given some significant tweaks.  But among the largest changes in version 11.08.11 is an Alias system, and in his What’s New documentation, Stealth explains what that does:

An “Alias” system has been added so that more-easily memorize-able names can be used for Commands, Variables, settings, etc. in scripts instead of their internal ID numbers. Aliases for standard IDs are included and listed/used in the documentation, and users can modify them and/or add their own for game-specific IDs.

If this sounds like a foreign language to you, consider this: E:02 was one of the community’s first examples of a homegrown 2D game engine, its use not necessarily limited to Sonic games.
