Should You Still be Concerned?
Just coming in via a News Tip is the first gameplay video of Mushroom Hill Zone from the 3DS edition of Sonic Generations, presumably form Gamescom. It is principally courtesy of German website N-Life.
Off camera, we see a fair bit but not a complete picture of classic Sonic gameplay from the zone, and at least visually the stage appears to faithfully recreate several elements from the Sonic and Knuckles stage…if not the entire level layout from Act 1.
Other judgments will certainly be made, and you can make those below in the comments section. Now that we know Mushroom Hill is being shown at Gamescom, we should expect more in due time. Thanks to Pointlessname for tipping us. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking Send News Tips at the top of every page.

@a132: There’s no such thing as a fanbase that isn’t “broken”. The difference between now and the 90′s is that everyone has the internet now, so everyone can bitch to any and everyone else. I’ve been in other fandoms and hobbies long enough to know that no matter what you do, you’re not going to please everyone and someone is always going to be an armchair critic who knows how to do it better than you.
Not to say that the Sonic fanbase isn’t particularly bad at times, it’s just not really that far outside the norm.
Wow. I really don’t like the 3ds version from what I’ve seen from it. And coming from me, that’s saying something.
@sonick123456 : I’m sorry you have your right to your opinion but since when your opinon a “saying something” have to insinuate that its the norm opinion
0:51 – The hell is this
1:25 – What happened here?
1:42 – 1:52 – I don’t like any of this |:-/
Sure its a bit glitchy and the psychics still need a little touching up, but I think it’s mostly that whoever it playing sucks. They must not have had a childhood. Most of us have that level memorized
@a132
Not to belittle your opinion because many people do look at the sonic fanbase from your point of view, but I actually think that Sonic has one the best fan bases ever; in fact I would say the best fan base. The thing is that most Sonic fans are passionate about Sonic the Hedgehog, no matter if we are classic fan, modern fan, or even fan of the spin offs. There is something that is unique about Sonic’s history and franchise which makes us extremely passionate about where the franchise goes next. You know as a fan base we might disagree with each other on many accounts but we also agree with each other on many accounts, we have dedicated people (like the people who run TSSZ, Sonic Retro, Sonic Style, Sonic Fan games HQ) who keep this diverse fan base together, and I think most importantly we have people in our fan base who contribute to Sonic whether it is through suggestions to developers to creating their own fan games. All in all, the Sonic fanbase is made up of all sorts of passionate and dedicated fans that in itself makes out fanbase very healthy.
@AM- I think Mario has the best fanbase. I just can’t agree with what you said. Yes most of us are passionate, but then others aren’t. I actually think Sonic has THE worst fanbase in history, and I’m not bashing on any of the fans. Go on Youtube, type in Super mario 3ds trailer, and just look at the comments. Every time I look at those comments, its nothing but polite and pure happiness
Seriously, I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a comment where people say “Mario sucks”, etc., unless your an immature sonic fan that hates mario. Then, when I go on the trailers for Sonic Generations, nothing but WARS. It starts off w/dull-witted people that say bad things, all the way to those COD people saying “SONIC SUCKS, COD IS A MASTERPIECE!” I swear I see that everyday! >:( and I love COD, but those dull-witted people are out of the line.
I actually despise the word “fanbase” now, not because Sonic’s is so divided, but because of how often people TALK ABOUT IT and use the word as a cop-out excuse to explain what’s wrong with the franchise/world.
I’d rather have a broken fanbase than a fanbase that won’t shut up about how broken it is.
@ChaoticFox: Well, technically, Sonic’s is both. Broken and with the fanbase unable to stop talking about how broken it is. It’s really not all that abnormal though.
That’s my point. It’s NOT that abnormal, apart from how often it finds it necessary to redirect all of the blame for things wrong with the series back on itself, lol.
I’m not saying the fanbase isn’t divided, I’m just sick to death of hearing about it.
>actually a fucking prompt to tell the player to press down
FUCK THIS GAY EARTH.
Everything in video games these days is literally hand fed to you, fuck.
With that irritation aside…..this player sucks fucking balls. Has he EVER EVER EVER played Sonic & Knuckles? The guys who played the game at the Alcatraz contest looked better.
….on a nitpickey side of the game, it appears all of the massive speed of this level has been sucked away. THAT is a huge….depressing point.
Seeing Sonic barely be able to spindash up the reverse U towards the end of the video just cemented DIMPS doesn’t give 2 fucks about the physics and need to be literally brought to school on how to program a Sonic game.
…and before my comment is done.
>using the analog stick to play 2D Sonic
>or any form of Sonic in the 2D view
This is as retarded as people using the Dpad for fighting games on a controller.
I’m very proud of what i see here, more detailed levels better physics, proper rolling mechanics.
The physics here are MUCH more accurate then the console version. Now if they can add a bit more detail to the stages and Sonic’s models, then this is a day one purchase for me.
I’m very curiouse about one thing, in Sonic Generations, it will have chaos emeralds to collect? and what about super emeralds? Just asking… =)
I have to admit… the physics DO look better. Dimps must be either smoking a whole lot of weed or time travelled back to the Sonic Advance physics era to pull this off. Either way, it has improved.
But it’s a little strange that the level design is exactly the same… Oh well. Still looks pretty decent.
SO MUCH TAMBOURINE.
The game looks pretty good, I mean the physics for Classic Sonic has always been a little wonky. Plus, I don’t think that guy played a lot of Sonic back in the day so maybe his less then brilliant game skills makes this demo seem kind of off.
Also, I really don’t think Sonic has the worse fanbase ever, maybe not the best, but certainly not the worst. Sonic has many dedicated fans who love him and his games. I think that the fans are sometimes the only thing keeping Sonic afloat. Sonic has evolved so much that many fans has a different view on how his games should be whether its graphic, levels, characters, voices…ect. There are a ton of elements that are very debatable. which causes a lot of arguments.
@Ricardo: I will agree that Mario is one of the better fanbases but there are still few that bash him if he brings something different to the table, i.e Mario Sunshine is considered by some of the fanbase to be a low point with Mario. While others in the fanbase are tired of Mario being included in every sport ever invented.
I also agree with you on the Sonic Generations youtube videos. I was taking a look at the Big Arm battle and people were having a riat and about to bring flame torches because Sega/Dimps decided to use the Doomsday Music instead of the song that was originally there. The main complaint was that they thought Sega was stupid for supposedly confusing the songs. Yet Doomsday also play when Knuckles is fighting Super Mecha Sonic. So why all of the complaining.
@ Robot521: I get what your saying but on a different perspective we are all sonic fans and we want he’s games to be succesful but if we are all fans then why is it that some people even on this forum are wishing the 3DS version to just die so that those zones can be fair game for the console verison. Thats just basically bringing the HD fanboys against nintendo fanboys. And I’ll be honest I’m with Nintendo but that doesn’t mean that I wish that the HD version be glitchy or something like that. Sure the 3DS had a rough start but signs are pointing to it getting better.
And on a final note. Blaming Dimps for “copying and pasting” Act 1 of both Mushroom Hill and Green Hill Zone is down right dumb in itself. Why is no one blaming Iizuka or Sonic team themselves. Sonic team chose the stages all Dimps is doing is programming them who’s to say it was Sonic Team that told Dimps to just do a paint job to Classic Sonic stages.
It’s exactly the same.
My hope for the 3ds version was just raised like crazy.
Uncurling was finally eradicated. The physics look pretty good. I’d dare to say a little better than the HD version’s tank-like physics.
Dear Sega: You ruined the 3DS version. If you want to redeem yourself, take out Mushroom Hill and put in Flying Battery or Lava Reef.
@Cheddly
If the 3DS version is ruined, why would you want them to bastardize even better levels? Derp :/
@ChaoticFox
Is it wrong of me to think that Spyro fans have more of a reason to complain about a character redesign than Sonic fans do over a complete copycat of the first act of Mushroom Hill being on 3DS and already labeling it as “ruined”?
lol, but it sounds to me like an electronic drum kick, maybe?
@soysoy
srry for double post, oops
