It’s Short…is it Sweet?
The same source of the previous Classic Sonic video, German website N-Life, today uploaded a one minute peek at the modern equivalent of Mushroom Hill Zone in Sonic Generations 3DS.
Unfortunately, the video may not be the best gauge of how the level plays, because the player again isn’t very good, and ultimately ends up in a pit from which he can’t figure out how to get out. But there are some items of note, most audibly what sounds like the original Mushroom Hill theme from Sonic & Knuckles present in this stage.

finally found someone who really knows how to play mushroom hill act 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAtg9sF904o
The 1st half of me is impressed with the improvements on the 3DS version (as well as the final boss from Launch Base making a better and awesome comeback from S3K) while the other half believes it would’ve been more badass if it were on the 360/PS3 versions.
@QuietGuy92
The development team for the HD versions of the game only have so much time to develop the levels for the HD version , they could not put all these levels in the game in the limited time they have (remember in order to come out on time for the game they have to design, code, test, get feedback and make changes). The 3DS version was given to another team (DIMPS) to develop seperatly but they also have the same restrictions. What I am basically saying is that even if they did not make the 3DS version, they would not have enough time to incorporate all of these levels in HD (unless maybe they got more developers or if DIMPS joined their team, all of which would be hard to do for a single project).
@AM
Not gonna keep me from pouting that the HD dev team decided to give us shitty levels/bosses instead of more awesome ones like Mushroom Hill and Big Arm. Balance schmalance.
@ChaoticFox
On the other hand you guys got Flying Battery, the metal Sonic boss (one of the most epic Sonic bosses), and Chemical Plant (which beats Casino Night Zone any days [for me anyways]).
One thing I had a question about is are the levels after the genesis series for the 3DS coming from the GBA games (Sonic Advance, 2, and 3) and the Sonic Rush series + portable Colors?
Is there a list of confirmed levels for the 3DS version?
@ AM: The four remaining levels have to be pulled from those games. But if Big Arm is anything to go by then that means that Sonic 3′s only representation in the game is Big Arm. While S&K’s representation is Mushroom Hill. So if we go by that then maybe the games that don’t get a level/zone then it might be represented in a boss battle.
Sorry for the double post but in my opinon AM Casino Night to me is one point above Chemical Plant. But then again that just me.
I was sort of disappointed that mini bosses where missing. Although that could just be because this is a demo (I remember some of the interceptor battles were pulled out of the early Sonic Unleashed Wii demos, so I am hoping this is the case here but who knows). They also better have more bosses, right now I have a feeling that the genesis era will get only one boss, the advance remakes will get one boss, the rush series will get one boss, and there will be a final boss. I also hope we get a full launch base zone, but I doubt that will happen.
The Consoles seem to have a boss for each zone so I hope that is the case for the 3DS. Especially if they want to have as many zone representations as possible
@a132
I hope you are right. I have regained confidence in the 3DS version so I hope Dimps will keep me confident in the game’s quality (especially after seeing more recent Green Hill Zone game play with better backgrounds and fixed graphic draw rates, and of course Mushroom Hill Zone was also great). The changes made shows that Dimps is committed to the game again. Hopefully, their commitment continues.
@AM
The Console version has some great stuff, but I’m one of those people that would have rather seen more levels from the Genesis era and less from games that aren’t even 3 years old. I’d rather have Casino Night or Mushroom Hill than the revamped Spagonia (Flying Battery knockoff included) any day of the week.
@ChaoticFox: That’s why I wasn’t to keen on seeing levels from Unleashed or Colors. Too soon.
@Amuro
Exactly. It’s not about “baww, modern levels suck”, it’s just that over a third of the game is based on content that’s still available on the SAME CONSOLE. It would have been nicer to see more updates from stuff a little further back…
It’s like releasing a remake of a movie just a few years after its first release… it’s simply not as appealing as seeing something old remade into something new.
Of course, then you get into the whole concept of potentially butchering classic content, or remaking things that never needed a remake in the first place, but that’s another issue entirely XD
@ChaoticFox: Yeah. I mean, seeing levels from Dreamcast and Gamecube games remade in the Hedgehog Engine in HD is nice, but it’s not as cool as seeing levels from 16-bit or handheld games remade in the Hedgehog Engine. If Green Hill and Chemical Plant look as boss as they do, imagine the possibilities of the other levels. Sky Sanctuary, anyone?
I’m going to have both versions! I can’t wait to buy that game
