Good for the Unexposed; Bad for the Oversaturated
If you planned a trip to the closest mall showcasing the Sonic Generations demo hoping to get more than a taste of Green Hill Zone, we have some unfortunate news to pass along.
Tucked away within some comments on the Sega blog showing off the latest batch of Generations screenshots is a remark from community manager Kellie Parker claiming only Green Hill will be a part of the Simon Malls tour.
“The mall tour is Green Hill Zone only,” Parker said.
That is still good news for those who haven’t played the demo, and even if you have, it stands to reason the modern component of Green Hill will be on hand to try out–something the downloadable home demo did not easily have accessible.
But for those who have already experienced the stage, pared with only City Escape’s additional availability at Gamescom this week, it’s a tough pill to swallow. Many are itching to see Chemical Plant in action and beyond, and for comparison’s sake, Sonic Colors had three areas demoed at last year’s Gamescom.

Never thought I’d say this but I’m tired of Green Hill Zone! They can at least have the City Escape available for the public….but oh well! It will make for a better surprise when they start showing more gameplay later on
Not being American, I couldn’t care less, but who’s to say these demo’s won’t include modern Sonic aswell? The public havent got the chance to play that yet
kellie is just as much an idiot as Aaron is she can’t even give out a explanation on why its only Green Hill Zone
@Manic First of all, neither Kellie or Aaron are a “she”. Second of all, that doesn’t make them an idiot, because they don’t NEED to explain why it’s GHZ only. I’m sure there are reasons for it- like they want to mainly show off City Escape at more major events like Gamescon and Penny Arcade Expo. Third, many people still haven’t experienced GHZ, and that’s the first, most iconic stage in the series, so they’re using it to best represent the game to the public for the tour.
Oh wait, Kellie is. My mistake. My other points stand, neither of them are idiots, and it’s rude to say they are.
@Manic
That doesn’t make them idiots, it makes them employees. They may not have the authority to answer that question, or they may not have been given the information from the people actually in charge of it. They’re just doing their jobs – lighten up.
Once again, Manic proves his over-growing stupidity.
As of the Jacksonville stop yesterday, the demo is functioning. The demo featured both Classic and Modern Green Hill Zone.
Although this is a very good opportunity to play Modern GHZ, I was very disappointed by this event. There’s very few games on display. The event was pretty empty; some Gamestop staff were playing the games by themselves. Staff could not tell me anything about “star developers,” “giveaways,” “offers, “and everything else this tour advertised. Staff were really trying to sell off the 3DS, which especially isn’t impressive when they only have Atari games on display.
If you have to drive more than 30 minutes to this event, I wouldn’t bother attending. I didn’t spend more than 30 minutes there after playing every game, drinking a free Coke Zero, and playing the Sonic levels multiple times (no recordings, sorry, but it apparently was a very old build).
I wouldn’t really blame Sega staff but blame whoever organized this event. If it was more exciting, then tons more mall shoppers would join in and say, “Oh wow I didn’t know Sonic was still around and celebrating his 20th.” Only then would this be good for the unexposed…
Maybe… Instead of telling you guys not to go, you should go and support our little blue hedgehog! Oh well, you decide. You’re welcome for the news tip?
I played it today
Well, this November, I’ll be at the mall with my uncle, Jason, who used to play the first Sonic game.
@Manic the Hedgehog a couple things.
1) I am not an idiot.
2) Neither is Aaron.
3) Nobody asked me why the mall tour demo is only GHZ. Had they asked me, I would have been happy to answer. The mall tour started before Gamescom. The demo at Gamescom was just that — a Gamescom exclusive debut. That’s why the mall tour doesn’t have the Gamescom demo.
