Sega’s Largest Venture Into Digital to Date
Today, Sega made official what we first reported over a year ago (albeit with a now expired timetable): The latest in its pinnacle fighting series, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, is coming to consoles.
An interview with Gamespot details the update to VF5 will be released next Summer to XBOX Live and PSN. It will be standalone fare, so it doesn’t appear existing owners of VF5 can simply download DLC at a discount. The game will include online play, with the company promising almost no latency. A new single player mode will be added, and the game will also have its own DLC. Other additions include the return of Taka-Arashi from Virtua Fighter 3.
Sega has not released details on pricing, though they have assured there will be no retail release.

……people give a shit about Virtua Fighter?
In the year 2011?
They can’t just make it a Virtua Fighter 6 already?
Not to brag or anything, but I was the first to comment on SEGA’s announcement video and I had the third view. I knew before most people did. But I didn’t think that TSSZ really cared about this. But yeah, I’m getting this!
@Haru:
Yes a small minority of arcade fighting fans (i.e. me and a shitload of japanese people) do give a shit about Virtua Fighter in 2011. =P
Gee, i just love visiting the Virtua Fighter Website! Whoops, i mean one of the SONIC websites.
what does this have to do with sonic?
Tristian posts SEGA news once a year to make his site quality as a ‘SEGA news site’.
Also any Virtua Fighter game is better than any Sonic game in the last 10 years.
I love Virtua Fighter 5. It needs more chinese fighter though. Still, Im happy about this!
Classic Werehog confirmed.
I mean why else would Sega do this and Sonic CD XBLA port?
“Also any Virtua Fighter game is better than any Sonic game in the last 10 years.”
lolno. That’s so laughable it hurts.
@ Haru
How is it? There hasn’t actually been a bad VF game.
Whereas with Sonic at the moment, we are surprised if a game turns up playable.
