An Error, or a Pushback?
Most felt Sega made clear the release date of Sonic Generations–including the special Collector’s Edition–when they claimed a November 4th release across Europe for presumably both versions.
So why, after the fact, are so many who have pre-ordered the CE through Amazon UK are now taking to the Internet, advising others they’ve received an E-Mail claiming a shipment delay until early December?
“I have pre-ordered the collectors edition of Sonic Generations as I’m from the UK, but got an email saying the release for it is December 3rd!!!?” said AdamTre via News Tips. “Haven’t Sega finalised this edition in time for the release?”
AdamTre is not alone. On Twitter, we saw a couple others saying they too received notices from Amazon saying the CE won’t ship until anywhere from December 1st to the 8th, more than a month after the core game itself is released.
On the Sonic Stadium message board, forumer Verte posted a similar notice from Amazon:
Hello,
Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date: “Sonic Generations – Collector’s Edition (Xbox 360)” Estimated arrival date: December 01 2011 One of Amazon’s aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have fallen short. Please accept our sincere apologies.
Other retailers have not sent out similar notices to customers as far as we are aware, and that has promoted some of those affected to into the matter. Also on the SSMB, Ryan91 from Scotland followed up with Amazon and received this response:
Further to your email please do understand that we ship the items as soon as they become available from our supplier.
In this case as the release date of the item ” Sonic Generations – Collector’s Edition (Xbox 360) ” was November 04, 2011 we would dispatch your order as soon as we have received the item and rest assured that there is no need of any concern.
Please do note that we would dispatch the order as soon as the item was released and was available from our suppliers. As we were previously informed that the release date was November 30, 2011 this was still showing on our website and sooner it would be changed as soon as the supplier updates us regarding the availability.
Rest assured that there is no need of any concern and we would dispatch your order as soon as the item was released though your order status states that it would be dispatched on November 30, 2011.
So, is this an error on Amazon’s part, or something more? Could we see the CE delayed perhaps due to demand, or in a worst case scenario, ALL editions of the game delayed in the West? Because the news broke over the weekend, we don’t have any official guidance on the matter, but this is something Sega will certainly have to address soon, with a lot of folks and their pre-orders potentially affected. We will bring you any more when we hear more.

australian game stores are still getting them in on the 3rd of november
Japan ver. comes out in december, december 8th i think. Is it odd if they use that ver. in the special edition?
Damn Aaron webber must had something to do with the game being delayed >_>
Nah its probably just error on Amazon part. Collectors edition is relased only once. This is what make it special. They should correct it in few weeks.
Odd that Amazon.de wouldn’t have sent out a similar email, being that they’re still technically the same company.
I’d wait until things get a bit closer to launch before I started panicking. Not that this’ll have any bearing on my ability to actually play the game, being that I still intend to collect my US pre-order from Gamestop on launch day.
I’m just hoping some weird shit isn’t going down that’s going to affect Amazon’s ability to make good on my pre-order. I’m not particularly concerned with WHEN I get it, so long as I do.
Amazon has screwed up release dates for games in the past. For instance, they had sent an e-mail once saying that “World of Warcraft: Cataclysm” would not come out till January, after Blizzard announced their December 7th release date. So yea, Amazon can be complete morons in this respect, and I would not panic too soon.
haha, thank goodness i did not even bother with this special CE.. i just pre-ordered the regular edition with dc from GAME instead. XD
Amazons Date is wrong, it still says November 30th even though the date is November 4th and thats a wednesday, think about it now it would take about 2-3 days for the big package to arrive if the game were to release 30th of november it would arrive around that time, it’s just amazons release date that is listed, they need to Update the date now.
So wait, can someone explain? If I am in the U.S. and pre-ordered in person over the counter at GameStop does this still effect me? o.o Just curious and uncertain. o0
@ManicTheHedgehog
Aaron Webber has NOTHING to do with the delay. Learn to make some goddamn sense.
I got similiar email to that of what Ryan91 got when I asked amazon about this.. basically saying how release date there on amazon could still change
Hoping they will change it and get the game by November though.. D:
@ManicTheHedgehog ……what are you talking about dude? xD
If its not w mistake, but a pushback, then lol ppl will now have to wait 3 months before release.

HOHOHO!
Nah, I’m kidding.
I would say it’s worth the wait. They probably udnerestimated the interest.
Pre-ordered the game on Amazon.fr yesterday evening and the delivery date is still November 4th. (Thanks Amazon Premium <3)
-.-, amazon UK’s DATE IS WRONG for the CE and normal its been saying 30TH NOVEMBER since the END of JUNE, TILL NOW, its JUST AMAZON has NOt heard the NEW DATE and have not UPDATED IT, so DON’T WORRY because you will GET your CE EDITIONS FO RELEASE TIME.
Is this clear now?
I personally think this is a FALSE alarm (I’ve used amazon before), but I’m worried about those emails. I know I’m just being paranoid, but has Sega said anything about this yet?
Not gonna panic though.
