More Guidance on Portable Edition Street Date?
Though Sega has been fairly adamant of late regarding the console release dates for Sonic Generations, that has not been the case for the 3DS version. There has been little guidance other than “Late 2011″ or “November 2011″ there.
That’s why we want to bring this to your attention. Via a news tip, Chris W. tells us as of yesterday, major retail chain Best Buy is listing the title for release on November 29th, which is just after the Thanksgiving Holiday–and after the big Black Friday shopping day.
It is by no means official, and Sega has yet to confirm, but we should note the date on Best Buy was refreshed on Tuesday. We will let you know anything more. Thanks to Chris W. for the tip. Thaats stupid, release tht shit on BLACK FRIDAY SEGA :I
To release a game of the SAME title one month AFTER its HD counterpart is commercial suicide.
Releasing a shitty game early just to make a deadline would be worse.
I will gladly wait a month for the 3DS version if it means they’re using that time to make it better.
@XprS
they did that with sonic unleashed ps3, and 06 ps3, and both STILL somehow managed to sell well.
A month, guys? It’s only 20 days.
But yeah, it is commerical suicide.
Is it even possible for a Sonic game releasing 3 weeks before Christmas to commit commercial suicide…?
They could name this game “Sonic gets a rimjob from a goat” and it would still sell a million copies.
I’d rather a longer wait then a rushed game. Look at where Sonic ’06 got us.
@x
I uhh…kinda doubt that…
i don’t mind it needs work, at least level design wise that and I won’t be playing this till xmas, Saints row 3 ftw, but sonic generations is the better game, but with a worse pre-order bonus i mean sure it’s free, but i believe this will be dlc later on and a pinball table doesn’t impress me enough, now please let me post my comment tristan, I don’t know what i said before but could you at least tell me, i mean i don’t know the rules of commenting on tssz
uhhh wow nvm tristan
i am getting the 3ds version
how is it commercial suicide? the 3ds and 360/ps3 are 2 different markets.
Commerical suicide would be announcing a PC version along with the console version cuz some people would just opt to buy it for PC. I for one don’t have and Xbox 360 or PS3 so PC or the 3ds would be my only options. So I’m still sitting here twidelling my thumbs until may 4 months later when Sega finally announces the PC version
@Will
Wait what? Commercial suicide is having people buy it but not buying it on a console what?
@Sonical
Some comments here are suggesting that it is commerical suicide to release the 3ds version along with the PS3/360 version. but thoses are two completely different games. If the game is released on the PC then Sega risks some of the sales for the console versions because they would both have the same content
@Will:
That doesn’t make any sense, really. It wouldn’t affect the sales of the console and 3DS versions if you don’t own a 360/PS3/3DS. People who own or prefer a 360/PS3/3DS will get that version, while people who prefer PC gaming would get the PC version. If a PC version of Generations is released, I HIGHLY doubt it would out-sell the console versions. *cough*pirating*cough**cough*.
I don’t think we have to worry. It’s only 20 days later and still without the same month. It’s right after Thanksgiving and still before Christmas so it’s in a good zone for sells. It’s good that it’s coming out letter as it’s inferior and needed more work, but it’s also not as “big” as the console version and doesn’t require as much work as the console version, but at the same time say it WERE released on the same day. I don’t think being released 20 days early is really all that “rushed” and especially no where near as rushed as Sonic 06! So that comparison shouldn’t even be made.
@TheManwithPants
Then why hasn’t a PC verison been offically announced?
Release on BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!!
@Will:
How would I know? I’m not SEGA. In all honesty, it’s hard to say if there will be a PC version at this point. The 360/PS3 versions of the game are a little over a month away from release, and nothing regarding a PC version has been announced so far. I don’t know what game SEGA is playing.
@TheManWithPants:
It hasn’t been announced cuz it would affect the sales of atleast one of them. Take Sonic Heroes for example it came out Jan 2004 for Gamecube, Ps2, and xbox, the pc version then came out on Nov 2004. So the PC version has the possiblity of still existing
there will be no pc version because of pirates if sega release this in the pc a day before the games launches will be aviable on torrents websites to download and people whit pc are going to download the game and this will affect the console sales and sega will be losing money in my opinion sega did a smart move in cancelling sonic generations on the pc
It’s not commercial suicide to release it on the PC because either way, SEGA gets the money, which is what matters in the end to the company.
Maybe Sega should release both the PS360 versions on the same date as the 3DS. And it should be on Black Friday too.
@FoxBoy
During the last month of production, test and reprogramming teams will typically work at least 16 hour days before shipping off to production.
20 days of testing can fix a lot of issues.
16 HOUR DAYS.
THAT BETTER BE PAID OVERTIME SEGA.

This is a pretty accurate example of what crunch time is like on a big game.
Now, of course I’m not saying this is how Dimps rolls, but a few extra weeks’ work can really mean a lot of improvements.
@teriusu: How can you cancel something that isn’t offically announced?
Good for Sega. Id rather play a great version of the portable than a half assed one. If they wanna delay it longer I dont mind eithor.
@x
…I… wow…
After getting my Comp Sci degree I’m sure as hell not working as a game designer (or at least not under some publisher, indie games, that’s where it’s at).
