Hez: “I fixed quite a few bugs me thinks.”
Though Hez may not have a booth at SAGE, that has not stopped him from releasing the next revision of “Sonic Classic” on Sonic Retro late last night. As the name would imply, this revision of Sonic Classic adds 16:9 widescreen support to the game, in addition to another round of bug fixing and polish. As is tradition with Sonic Classic, the game comes in two flavors, a 150mb+ download with all of the music, and a significantly smaller file minus the game’s soundtrack.
Hez does offer this warning for Windows 7 users:
You MUST put the Sonic Classic folder and files in a read AND write place. This means you can’t put it in Program files if your using Windows 7 because that is a read only folder and you will get errors when trying to do time trials or save.
For those of you holding off until a more stable release of the game came around, this might be the version of Sonic Classic you’ve been waiting for.

I love it!
I know this is probably out of his control but man the Sonic World or Multimedia Fusion engine this runs on simply can’t handle high resolutions, I’m trying to play this at 1080P and it becomes slowdown city.
I simply cannot play this until he normalizes the music. the volume of each track is all over the place, its very distracting.
@Jordan Freeman
Yeah it’s pretty awful noticed it in Sonic Axiom also so again I blame Multimedia Fusion for these nasty little quirks. Kinda wish they would just port them over to the Genesis
@Sonical Multimedia Fusion has very little to do with music volume
The thing is, I really do want to play the game. I tried replacing all the music myself but it took so long, I gave up after awhile. This probably bothers me more than it should to be honest.
You can change the music volume in the options screen.
@Ryan Bloom
Ahh I figured it was some piece of middleware that was screwing it up. Going through the actual music folder in Winamp and it’s a mess, sound quality randomly goes to the very top and very bottom from track to track, even the rips of the Genesis music sound awful.
