SAGE 2011: Naoto Ohshima Q&A revealed

SAGE 2011: Naoto Ohshima Q&A revealed

by September 24, 2011

The original designer of Sonic speaks to fans

Earlier today it was revealed that the original character designer for Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman, Naoto Ohshima will be taking questions live at the Sonic Amateur Games Expo at 8:45pm Eastern Standard Time (which, at the time of writing this, is in about 15-20 minutes). Questions will be taken in the official SAGE chat, accessible at Sagexpo.org, and provided to Ohshima where he will then answer them with the aid of a translator, live on the SAGEcast audio.

Naoto Ohshima was the original character designer for Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman. He was given the opportunity to direct an entire game in Sonic CD, wildly regarded by many to be the best game in the Sonic franchise. Ohshima was also behind the character and world design of NiGHTS: Into Dreams on the Sega Saturn, considered by Yuji Naka to be his “E.T.” (a reference to Steven Spielberg’s insistence that “E.T: The Extra Terrestrial” is his best, most perfect movie).

Ohshima left Sonic Team shortly after the release of the original Sonic Adventure for unspecified reasons. He then founded his own game studio, “Artoon”, initially known for games like Pinobee: Wings of Adventure and Blinx the Time Sweeper.

We’ll be providing coverage of the Q&A as necessary.
