The Skill Shop is Open for Business
Originally from Germany’s latest GamesMaster magazine, SSMBer NeonMJH has posted a couple new shots from Sonic Generations, one of which focuses on the game’s skill shop.

There are a couple things we can deduct from this; first, there will be some skills specific to one particular Sonic over another. We see in the screenshot here a fair bit that can apply to both, and the skills look pretty useful if you’re eying time trials. It also appears the original shield, in addition to the elemental ones, will be available for classic Sonic to use.
One other item of note is the mention of Skill Points, which will apparently be required at varying quantities to equip these skills. It would appear skill points will be awarded based on how well you do in a stage. So, if you think you can just go nuts in the shop adding abilities to your character, think again.

Lookin’ good! Now, I need to go and find a cheap 1080p HD TV somewhere….. I wanna play this game with good quality
Hmmmm, this reminds me of the skill system from Sonic and the Secret Rings.
I like it!
well then better not buy a cheap tv then
I wanna see more modern sonic skills
awsome skills are awsome.
modern skill = ok
classic skill = bad
I feel like I no one can consider themselves a true Sonic fan unless they 100% this game.
you get skill points at the end of a level. That credit card thing that pops up in the result screen? yeah those are the skill points you just earned and the point you already have
ChaoticFox Don’t start that arrogant crap
Oh cool, the skill feature from the storybook series makes an appearance. I always liked that about secret rings. Cool way to make sonic faster other than just leveling up speed….now where’s that start dash skill
@Manic
I’m not saying I’m right, lol. That’s just how I feel. Chill the fuck out, you little crybaby.
I’m buying this game on launch day and I am not putting it down until I have unlocked everything there is to unlock. If I ever find myself stuck and unable to complete some challenge that will prevent me from 100%-ing the game, I will probably feel bad about myself as a Sonic fan. lol
Wow. Nice.
Skill Points add a good replay value to the game. Impressive.
A skill points system? Nice!
Looking awesome as always.
So, you buy the shields in order for you to get them in boxes in the stages, or do you have to press a button to activate one at any time? Either way, I’m not fussed.
@ChaoticFox I’m with you on that
, I’m gonna unlock everything too
@ChaoticFox
I’m guessing you don’t like being Hard-Boiled.
(Try to get the reference)
@Krazee
I beat the SHIT out of Sonic Colors with pleasure, but S-ranking everything on Unleashed is WAY more frustrating. Eggmanland is just a pain all around XD
that reminds me of Mann Co. Store http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Mann_Co._Store
*cracks knuckles* I 100% Sonic Unleashed, and I did the same to Colors DS AND THE WII version.
BRING IT GENERATIONS!!!
These sound a lot like the Badges in Paper Mario. Those Badges were my favorite part of the game. Besides the excellent dialogue.
Bring on the replayability! I’m going to be playing this game to death when I get it.
Is “constant spindash gravity in classic mode” an upgrade?
@ChaoticFox
Was that necessary?
@SonicGo!
Is any comment on the internet EVER necessary? No. No it was not.
Just stating my opinion. I like that this game has so many unlockables and things to earn.
Oh, November, why must you tease me?
Beats raising billions of rings for a crapload of souvenirs and hotdogs.
@ aTomic1998:
When equiped to Classic Sonic, you press Y/Triangle to activate it at anytime. However, you can only use it once per level run.
Cool! And it would be even cooler if you can buy Classic Sonic’s insta-shield ability from Sonic 3&K

Super Peelout revealed
how will you activate this on PC?
This will definetly be the best Sonic Title since… all the other awsome titles
You select it from the menu, and when you play a stage, you press something to activate it. I don’t see the problem here.
Yes!!!! This is awesome.
@Ophelia
Did anybody say that there was one?
@Random Person:
Don’t. TVs are so expensive and kinda useless.
Just buy yourself a good quality LED monitor with built in speakers (buy some external speakers if that’s not your type) that supports HDMI and plug it into a 360/PS3, and you should be alright. Maybe it’ll look even better than those 1080p TVs.
Computer monitors already offer 1080+ resolutions anyway.
Cool shop! Reminds me of the Black Market from Sonic Adventure 2/: Battle.
About a good TV to play this game, I don’t mind not having an HD TV since I can read the text just fine.
@Tatsumaki
How on earth is a TV useless? Sure, you can use a monitor like a tv, but you can also use a TV like a monitor. And in the case of movies/most games, size > resolution.
I would HATE to play this game on anything less than a 42″ inch screen.
I don’t know why I wrote “inch”. Unnecessary.
Kinda reminds me of both the Black Market and SatSR skill points.
@ChaoticFox
Ehh not really, while monitors are smaller they are viewed from a very short distance so screen size isn’t much of a factor.
There was another pic revealed that was like a cutscene in the hub world.It had Modern Sonic staring at Classic Sonic who look drowsy and confused lol.
Aww you mean you can only buy skills with in-game currency? And everything you buy is permanent? Pfft, that is so ’90s. And so AWESOME.
@Sonical
If you want to play a game like this with your face two feet away from a tiny-ass screen, be my guest. I’m gonna be enjoying it in 50 face-melting inches of rad. Have fun with an inferior experience.
Does anyone else think that the over-charged Spindash is a result of upgrades from the skill shop?
@Ryan
Maybe. But if you play the new demo, it’s been substantially nerfed since the first one.
I hope it’s not like the skill sets in Secret Rings, Too many choices, too much to think about.
Meh. This doesn’t even interest me. None of the skills look that great. But he did say that it’d be useful for time trials sooo that makes sense. I mostly just wanna play good-ol Sonic. lol The only upgrades I liked were in SA1 and 2. They were cuzy items they wore, somewhat stylish and gave somewhat reasonable abilities. They weren’t just pills, chips, crystals or some sort of magic that just applied to the characters like some robot that can be “updated”. Not that I have a problem with that. They just don’t appeal to me as much.
Otherwise I don’t mind just merely playing the stages. I may go after some skills later if I feel like it, but probably not all of them. =P
Also, when it comes to the demo, I don’t know what but I never noticed til recently that the B-button makes Sonic duck. (On the 360 of course)
I love how this game is LOADED with little fanservices here and there, for example here you can see Wentos Chao puppets on the shop cart =)
