$30 Price Also Nets Classic Games
On Wednesday, the Steam store began taking pre-orders for Sonic Generations’s digital PC version.
At $29.99, the game is quite a steal and a good alternative for PC enthusiasts wanting to see Sonic’s worlds in the highest possible quality. It is noteworthy the game will not be unlocked until November 4th, however. That’s the day of the European console game release, and three days after the console game is released in North America.
To pass the time, Steam is offering Sonic 3 & Knuckles as well as Sonic 3D Blast as bonus games to those who pre-order. Thanks to Woun and ShadeVortex for tipping us. If you have news to share, be sure to share it with us by clicking Send News Tips at the top of every page.

Cool
Stinks it still remains $50 USD for us Australians on Steam.. real bummer.
I am aware of the much lower price on Green-man Gaming, but am very attached to my Steam list, and unaware if I will revive a Steam code from them once released.
If not I’ll just shell out the $50 I guess.
@Malady: Green Man Gaming and Direct2Drive will give you a Steam code via email once the game is released. Hence D2D saying that a 3rd party download is required: It’s because you need Steam to actually download the game, no matter where you get it from. It uses Steamworks, after all. I know this due to what other people have said after buying other games stat use specific clients.
@Shade Vortex
I’ve been hearing that around too, I should probably go have a closer read of things – thanks a lot of the heads up though.
There are lower specs required on that page. What we heard before was just the recommended specs it seems!
Oops, ignore me, I’m talking rubbish!
I notice the Steam achievements page for the Sonic Generations pre-order also shows the names and what to do to get all the achievements. No more secrets huh? Or are there some missing?
$30? Not the price I was expecting. This isn’t one of those games that is cheaper on PC because they have “no plans” to launch DLC and other goodies on the platform is it?
To compare, Ghostbusters was cheaper on the PC when it launched: $30, but only because they were shafting you and not giving you any additional content or multiplayer.
I guess I might wait a week to see if anything comes out of the woodwork before I place my order. If I need to get the console version to have the full experience, then that is where I’ll take my business, sad, though, it may be. I am first and foremost a PC gamer!
3D Blast instead of Sonic 2? What a strange choice. Generations already has Sonic 1, so they could have done the whole trilogy.
@HawkleyFox
If you look at the Steam page you’d see that it supports Steamworks for leaderboards and achievements it’s as feature complete as it’s console brethren.
Steamworks gives them a easy way to provide DLC. PC ports like Ghostbusters suffered because they didn’t have any infrastructure similar to Xbox Live and PSN and the dev didn’t want be troubled building one or going through the hassle of Games for Windows Live, Steamworks gives a simple and easy solution to that for developers
I just bought the pre order :3 And this make me a happy person <3
@Sonical
That’s a good point. I hope you’re right. If so, $30 is an outrageously good deal versus the consoles: Better graphics, real stereo 3D (instead of that fake parallax technique they use for consoles), and a cheaper price.
All you have to do is pay out the nose on hardware. xP Eh, it all balances out.
I’d still like to see a PC demo released. I’d like to test it on my machine to see if it’s worth me getting it on Steam.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I HAVE ENOUGH CASH TO BUY IT BUT I ALSO WANT ANOTHER GAME!!!!!!!!!! AGGHGHGHGHGH!!! HELP PLEASE!!!
….wow, if that isn’t an over reaction, I don’t know what is…
So. . . what about the physical copy?
