Watch Modern Sonic in Action Inside
We have a couple notes from Paris Games Week, the most notable one from News Tipster funkyjeremi83, who tells us the modern variant of Rootfop Run, at least, was on display at the show.
For the moment, this is the best video we have of the demo, uploaded to our tipster’s Youtube account. It only shows off the modern portion of Rooftop Run, and it doesn’t appear this was publicly playable at the show. We’re working our sources to see if there was any of the classic stage shown, and we’ll let you know when we learn more.
For now, pardon the watermark, and offer your thoughts on this re-imagined Sonic Unleashed stage below in the comments. Thanks again to funkyjeremi83 and also darkgomugomu for tipping us.

Firts!
Charmy in Planet Wisp!
This looks better than the original.
i remember the level in unleashed being 5 minutes long and near 4 minutes when i played with pure skill and in this game it’s 3 minutes what’s going on here? i don’t want my takeaway from generations to be “why so short”
Yay i got mentioned
the construction of that stage, is Totally a mess
Pretty good footage. I don’t believe this though. I tipped some stuff to TSSZ earlier this morning, and it’s like they neglected it completely.
Rooftop Run only looks a little different (with the festivities going on and what not).
The modern remix sounds great (love the piano intro), lots of platforming filled with alternate paths, and the level design has expanded upon and improved from the original’s claustrophobic linear corridors (but its still one of my favorites from Unleashed).
Hopefully, we’ll see Classic’s take on this level and as always, I’m impressed.
Epic. Win.
Much better than original
Original spaginia SUX
This have multiple ways, better music (no much guitar effect), better design and no tedium run parts.
I’ve got tears i my eyes the whole way through my favorite Sonic stage, epic remix I have waited sooooooo long for this! no if you excuse me I’m gonna play the original rooftop run a million more times
@Lucas Hinz
The original Rooftop Run does not suck. At first I was skeptical of its inlcusion in Generations, but now I’m quite fond of its remix and expansion on the level design.
Let’s be honest:
Who else is going to actually be walking around and searching for stuff in the Modern levels (besides Green Hill Zone)?
@krazeekidd
you’re going to want new controls for that.
Interesting…hmmm looks good…boy I had a hell of a time with that stage originally…trying to figure out the paths lol. Shit was I lost back then…lol…aye caught that ole charmy there.
@SSJ. its a Sonic game, expect short levels and expect to replay them a thousand times to make up for their length. Also I bet you wont beat that level in 3 minutes first try
Awesome level! The level design is soo much bigger and filled with alternate paths that I actually got lost watching where Sonic is suppose to go xD
The second to last level looks rather easy compared to Unleashed. Not that I’m complaining. The series has gotten rather difficult over the years. Nice to see it not be catered to masochists.
@krazeeKidd102 To be Honest I always walked around a Level after beating it for the first time.
And I mean Walk, not Run, I walked around levels finding nothing but invisible walls in Unleashed, that’s why I’m not a big fan of it.
It’s too much like Final Fantasy 13.
I have never played Sonic Unleashed but if i’m correct I see alot of references to Starlight Carnival act 1
PAUSE @0:56 that’s professor Pickle’s office!! That’s awesome! And sonic destroys it xD
Wow they combined Rooftop Run’s Hub world (Notice Spagonia University at 0:51), Act 1, Act 2, Act 4, and Act 5 and mashed it all into one level! @Mike it only looks easy cuz they got an expert playin it. lol i bet it will be pretty difficult the first few times u play it. and u gotta remember there will be missions as well. They said some of the missions even have more alternate paths or even new parts of the level!
Sonic broke into the professor’s house . . . jerk
Surprisingly meh, for the most part. At least the music is good.
@Lucas
no tedium run parts
I counted at least three without even trying.
Wait a minute!! @1:27 Isnt that the same section in the Modern era trailer when modern and classic sonic were running together and then modern sonic was boosting into those robots
@Serpx
why is it shorter than the original level you didnt answer that. I bet I won’t get 3 minutes either because ill get a even lower time
It’s also lacking a real final level Planet Tall Green Grass and Chill Music isn’t much of a final stage, people are going to complete that and expect they are at the halfway point of the game instead of the end before they fight Monster of the Week.
lol at people commenting on how colorful it looks hahaha rofl its because the horrible camera that filmed it over saturates everything
@SSJ i know wat u mean. the level does look real short compared at the original. But then again they got an expert playin it. and in all honesty i prefer a nice short 3 min full-of-platforming level than a 5 min boost-homing attack-quick step-then finish level. And the whole zone should be lengthy itself cuz there is also classic sonic’s act which hasn’t been shown yet and both sonics have 5 extra missions. I bet the missions will be hard and require more time! Its a total of at least 108 missions in the game cuz each zone has 12 missions (2 main acts, 5 classic challenge acts and 5 modern challenge acts).
There’s some really nice platforming sections in this level as well as speed areas. Looks great! A perfect balance.
@Renzy HOLY SHIT, YOU’RE RIGHT. xD Poor Pickle! Oh well, at least he’s in Shamar!
@Omachipthewisp96 Seems pretty much like it.
Considering the new bit of music after the original medley… Is it taken from another piece of Sonic music?
I am SOOOOO tempted to watch this! But I don’t want to see anymore spoilers. I already memorized Green Hill and City Escape, Classic and Modern.
“It’s too much like Final Fantasy 13.”
Sonic and FF is very different games
FF 13 is a rpg, and linear for rpg is a big sh*t, ff13 have good historyboard … end. The rest is terrible.
This is half as awesome as hearing Porky Pig say “Son of a bitch”! And that’s a compliment! XD
That’s the point Sonic Unleashed was Really Straight Forward, and had little Exploration, Just like FF13.
Go Straight…….
Straight….
Straight…….
Straight….
There’s only one way to go.
Oh..
I undestand Sideshowshayne
I happy sega fixed this in generations. Square probably don’t fix linear ways in ff13-2 (look videos).
Btw – Top games of this years for me:
-Uncharted 3
-Zelda SS
-Sonic Generations HD
I really wish they would fix the blue light after the homing attack. I hate how it dissapears right away like that. In the old demos it was normal, now its stupid.
@VizardJeffhog lol xD he’s gonna be pissed when he revisits his old office in Spagonia just to find out that it’s been destroyed xD
@Ninjaassassin
…Does that even matter…?
CHARMY! YEAH! I’m like his biggest fan! ( A fan of a six year old kid but still a fan).
Wow Rooftop looks amazing, no wait all of the stages look OUTSANDING!!!
Good work SEGA/SONICTEAM
Lovin it!
@SSJ Sega has ot be supid if they rlly make planet wisp the final zone. Im sure they gonna have some kinda time paradox level like the End of he world in Sonic 2006 or something b4 you fight the boss. It would be cool
@Stephan no it doesn’t, it’s like that person is looking for something to complain about.
@Renzy “Sonic, for tarnishing my office, you are hereby no longer permitted to eat my cucumber sandwiches, whether fresh or left out!”
“‘kay.”
definitely looks better than the original
Yay! My video is here^^ i ll upload the hub world presentation later^^
This whole is just spoiled.. fsake.
Only speed highway, crisis city and planet wisp left to be unspoiled.
@WizzleKidd
Don’t watch it then?
Anyway, looks awesome, but its still probably the least interesting stage in the game so far, only because its the least different to the original.
I think its more vibrant though, which is nice
@Gooch
Of course I am going to watch it! >_>
I don’t really even mind it, I just would of prefered if no footage was revealed.
