Including the Portable Shadow Battle
This evening, Japanese media were given dozens of screenshots for both versions of Sonic Generations.
Many of you have tipped us citing Famitsu as a source, but we actually have non-watermarked screenshots below courtesy of Andriasang. The 3DS shots for the most part cover Radical Highway, and they confirm Sonic will be racing Shadow in the stage. If you were expecting more originality from these boss battles on the 3DS, no such luck.
Let’s get you right to the screens in the gallery below.

Well, at least it’s not looking like a complete straight line… Though I would NOT be amused if it actually copied the same Act.
There’s actually more pics than the ones here. and there are definitely different parts that were not in the original
I still think that the screens coming out of the 3DS version (viewed on a computer at least) look terribad and closer to a DS game than a 3DS one (not that a DS could do these graphics, not quite). The last time I said that was when I saw the very first shots of Lylat Wars 3D. That was a lot further from it’s release than these!
Looks alright, too bad about the lack of originality in the boss battle though.
Hate to say this, Tristan, but you seem to have a strong aversion to the 3DS version. I understand, it’s not going to be console quality, but for those of us out there who can ONLY get the 3DS version (read: me), then your comments are quite disheartening. It’s not a bad review, though.
The battle itself is looking fine, but 2D gameplay really takes about half the challenge out.
In fact, it’s actually quite innovative how they decided to put the battle in Radical Highway and made it work for Sonic. He never actually went there before.
So THAT’S why Radical Highway is in Generations? Why not Final Rush or Green Forest then?
@ A: I would have to agree with you. Tristan is sort of as of late as you say having a strong adverison to the 3DS. Saying that the rival battle for the 3DS are not orginial yet Silver’s battle in the console verison isn’t something original either considering it take place in Crisis City.
You forgot to add the Streetpass picture and the 2 missions from Casino Night and Mushroom Hill.
@Timothy
In fact, if you think about it, Shadow’s battle in 3DS is even more original, because it take place in a completely original arena. Sonic wasn’t even in Radical Highway in SA2; I wonder what story changes they will have to make.
Something I’ve noticed about all versions of Generations: they like to use those annoying “keep running” bosses. Only Big Arm and Giant Mech let you actually stop and try to hit them.
@QuietGuy
Wasn’t the Big Arm the only boss fight shown so far?
What would be funny is if the Shadow battle is just Sonic running in to Shadow on his playthrough in SA2.
@Stephen
I’m talking about the fight with Shadow, NOT the Big Arm boss.
Still don’t know how I feel about the 3DS version. All the screenshots are shamefully small, and I haven’t seen much video footage at all.
