Feel the Rush Again on 3DS, Scans Inside
It turns out the hint of what appeared to be Apotos from Sonic Unleashed in that Japanese commercial a couple weeks back was a clever ruse. Via a comment left on an earlier story here, we have scans from the Spanish Official Nintendo Magazine review of Sonic Generations 3DS, and it clarifies Water Palace from Sonic Rush and NOT Apotos is the last stage to be revealed in-game.
All seven stages, and the special stage, are covered in the four page spread, and if you were worried about the game playing worse than its console counterpart–we certainly were–those fears can ease a bit. The magazine gave Generations for 3DS a 90 percent score, among the best of both versions.
We have scans of the review, which include screenshots, in the gallery below. They appear to be courtesy of Spanish forum Sonic Ages, as we learned when our friends at Sonic Paradise were actually writing this up as we were!

AWESOME!!
Literaly just updated! FIRST! JK, these are wicked!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I get to play Water Palace from Sonic Rush, a game I never played. TAKE THAT to everyone who said this game was History of the First Stage. We get a handheld stage AND it the second level of Sonic Rush. YESSS.
It’s kind of odd. I was got use to the idea that this level was Windmill Isle. But man I am stoked that its water palace.
It’s great that they’re referencing Apotos through Water Palace!
…But I would have preferred them to use Altitude Limit or Dead Line…
but that’s nitpicking.
Quite exciting stuff.
wait, so Apotos turned out to be Water Palace?
. . . . . darn, and I was coming to think Apotos was finally going to get the recognition it deserved. The fact it was revealed that there are only 7 stages in comparison to the Console Version’s 9 stages also knocks a few points off the “Respect” meter for me (so much for hoping for Kingdom Valley or Windmill Isle).
oh well, I’m sure it’ll still be a good game, and I’ll give it credit for including a level from a “Portable” Sonic game.
aw it would’ve been nice if they put another portable stage at least from the Sonic Advance series. Oh well. Something is something O:
Oh yeah, a Back 2 Back remix.
YES! I was afraid there’d be no water levels, but I was proven wrong.
Nice, a handheld stage.
FUCK YEAH!
Hmph, I hate water levels. But I guess it’s fine so long as there’s only one.
Well, technically, Tropical Resort was a handheld stage too, seeing that Sonic Colors was on the DS, so you can say there’s two handheld stages representing the Modern Era. But I’m glad to see a stage from one of the best portable Sonic games (in my opinion) on the 3DS version.
Green Hill Zone, Casino Night Zone, Mushroom Hill Zone, Emerald Coast Zone, Radical Highway Zone, Water Palace Zone, and Tropical Resort Zone.
Awesome, only one handheld exclusive stage is on the 3DS version. What a true celebration of the history’s handheld history…
@krazeeKidd102:
Implying it was to celebrate handheld Sonic only because the game’s on a handheld.
Yeah, I’d love to hear how they’ll remix Back 2 Back. None of Sonic Team’s regular composers have really remixed Hideki Naganuma before. That is, unless they’re bringing Naganuma back for this.
Also, according to the last image, the Wisps used in Tropical Resort will be the Red Burst and Cyan Laser.
At least Sonic Rush been represented into the game and I appreciate the Windmill Isle reference. But I’ll stick to the PS3 version, thank you.
@krazeeKid102
“Awesome, only one handheld exclusive stage is on the 3DS version. What a true celebration of the franchise’s handheld history…”
And its all thanks to our “friend”, Iizuka.
I guess I was wrong about DIMPS not including any handheld stages, but the fact Water Palace resembles Apotos doesn’t exactly help refute my statement. Either way, don’t really care as long as the game as some solid gameplay (and better physics than Sonic 4)…
Meh.
why can’t people use common sense. or read for that matter. DIMP never choose any levels.
All I’m wondering is how in the world is this version getting a 90 while the console versions are getting 80s and 70s.
Love this! One of my favorite stages in the Rush series is back!
I’m a devout Rush series lover, so it’s good to see it get represented. Too bad I don’t have a 3DS. If they make a Sonic Rush 3, you bet your life I will get one though.
@sonichedgehog
Don’t really care about the 3DS version but knowing Gameinformer, Joystiq, and Gamereactor, they’ll give it a higher score just for being the douchebags they are.
I loved Water Palace…
I might actually buy this game just for that stage..
I was thinking that SEGA would confirm 4 eras for the 3DS:
Classic Era
Dreamcast Era
Modern Era
Handheld Era
But I guess since Water Palace from the handheld game, “Sonic Rush” is confirmed as a Modern Era Stage, I guess we’ll have to stay with 3 eras for the 3DS.
Lol Damn its better than the Console counterpart. I told you this is what you get for hating on the 3DS Version. Anyway this Level may be a Mix of Windmile Island+KingdomValley and Water Palace.
Kingdom Valley is like the 3D Version of Water Palace if you think about it.
@GrayGadget:
Nice idea, but the handheld era kind of overlaps all of them. It started with Sonic the Hedgehog on the Game Gear in the Classic era, Sonic Advance in the Dreamcast era, and Sonic Rush in the Modern era.
They should have just named Emerald Coast “Neo Green Hill” and modified Radical Highway to look like Route 99 (Or even better, make it snow and add ice and turn it into Ice Paradise) and that’d have been better.
And how about Green Hill being more like the Game Gear one and made a stage from Sonic 2 GG make it in instead of Casino Night and modify Mushroom Hill and turn it into Meta Junglira from Triple Trouble. That’d have been cooler.
O well. One of the games I’ll get whenever I get a 3DS, and Emerald Coast/Water Palace should be good enough reasons.
@ quietguy: i think you care more about the 3ds verison more than you are putting off. Why comment on it then if you don’t care about it
This is beast 2 Remixes of Back 2 Back. Ahh i hope they bring back those Large Windmiles in the Water.I hope Classic Sonics remix of this Song is Techno.
i was thinking this level would be a mix of Kingdom Valley since they both look the same thanks to 3D
@QuietGuy92
Well…it was only GameReactor Norway that had the bad review. The other GameReactors were fine.
Sonic Generations 3DS 90% aka 9/10 compared to the Console versions 8/10 Lol Interesting.And when i looked back to the Tale of 2 Demos thing i was like. Your judging the game when its in the Beta Stages. Why do you think they were given as Demos.
But Still If you think the 3DS Is Beast say 9000.
9000000000000000000000000000
even better shade
^ True
Does the 3DS version of this game have voice acting or is it text boxes only? The 3DS version is the version I am getting and I like the new voice actors.
for those who know the console versions of sonic generations is a bit off, should try or get the pc version, on a decent spec PC the game is gorgeous, sometimes stunning. I wish SEGA optimised the console versions to run at 60fps, this would of been a much stronger release, the extra 30-40fps makes ALL the difference to the gameplay.
@animefan: I think that rush had the character talk a little. and Colors DS had them say aleast one line of text. So some where in between those to extremes or none at all.
>one handheld stage
and you people are happy with this?
…so the handheld history is being represented by one Rush level….XD
Not much better than no handheld levels at all.
Hell yeah!Sonic Rush is the game that got me into Sonic.

I present you with 3ds info:
Biolizard is the dreamcast boss
classic sonic unlocks homing attack after classic era
modern sonic unlocks stomp after dreamcast era
Since Rush was in my opinion the best handheld Sonic ever, I’m glad its getting represented, but a stage that looks identical to apatos without windmills is an odd choice. Still, delighted about it.
DAMMIT why couldn’t there be a Sonic Heroes stage or sonic advance , i didnt really like sonic rush. :S oh well

Egg Emperor from heroes is the modern era boss
