M&S 2012 for Wii Debuts 20th
The numbers continue to not bode well for either released edition of Sonic Generations across Europe. Official Chart Track UK ranks are out detailing last week’s sales, and the game is barely hanging on to the top 40.
Combined, the XBOX 360 and PS3 releases ranked 37th in week 3, down from 21st in week 2. Again, the game had to compete with the Halos, Call of Duties, Zeldas, and Marios of the world, as the marketplace gets more crowded for the Holiday shopping rush.
Generations also had to compete with Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games on Wii. Despite only being on sale two days out of the week, the latter was victorious. M&S 2012 charted 20th for the week, above Generations‘s week 2 rank.
With the release of Generations on 3DS this week, the numbers should go up. How much will again depend on how strong existing top sellers remain through the week. We will let you know next week, and we’ll also afford the unofficial domestic Week 3 estimates once they come in.

Ceejus is gonna pop up her and I’m too lazy to type anything for him, so whoever reads this, do your thing before he shows. XD
just wait for Christmas
Let’s prepare to shut him up before he blurts out another rant of fail.
Sonic Generations sucks and so do all of you.
Shitty games ftw
*poof*
@Stephan
Actually, we’re expecting someone else to do it, but it won’t happen. Sad.
“Sonic Colors sucks, Sonic Generations can go take a dump, Sonic 3 & Knuckles can kiss my ass.
Sonic 4 is the way I like it: Half assed, poorly planned and an insult to what really made the games good. If you hate it for these legitimate reasons, you officially suck, because I, and ONLY I like it. Dumps for teh winz0rz.
*le poof*
P.S.: What I drink for breakfast is not milk.”
There, Ceejus, we saved the trouble for you. Problem?
How in the world can Mario and Sonic (Wii version ONLY) have surpasses Generations, which is a PROPER Sonic game, for both 360 and PS3?! HOW!?!
Sega, you could’ve practically quadrupled your sales if only you made a Wii version of Generations…
@A: you are abosolutely correct.
yeah, HD is nice but financially going for wii would have made 10X more sense. The games are easier/cheaper to develop and sell much better. Whoops.
Guess what SEGA?
Should’ve given NA the Special Edition. So much for “hurr they like Sonic more over there. :U” huh?
Why,,,, Why everyone forget the PC/Steam version?
i think sonic generations its good but the problem its the sonic famdom its so bad no wonder why sonic xtreme beta wasnt released
Sonic Team skipped the Wii version because of it’s ”lack of HD capabilities”. Bad move.
The Wii is Sonic’s most popular console (game-wise of course). Had they followed the same formula like Colors, and bumped up the graphics just a little bit (which can be done), it would have made a pretty decent version of the game.
But NO. Skip the Wii, but yet go to the 3DS, which is the least favorite version as it stands. Oi.. what goes through your minds, Sonic Team?
I am sorry but I will laugh if Sonic Generations 3DS sells more than its HD console counterpart or gets a higher rank than it.
Why are you guys putting down Ceejus? Has he said something negative about Sonic?
@SonicLegends
If the 3DS sells and scores more than it’s console counterparts, I don’t know what my reaction would be. The 3DS version is already on un-even ground as it is, but then again anything can happen.
Maybe… it’s not doing well because it’s… not very good?
Haru, NA did get the Special Edition. The SE was the one with the pinball bonus that you got via preordering. There is also a Special Edition in Japan now or soon to be released. What you mean is CE, Collector’s Edition. There’s a giant difference.
I’m honestly surprised, really. SG’s been one of the best Sonic games I’ve played despite the few horrific problems it does have (I’m looking at the story and unresponsive controls when going for a decent rank or speed run). I imported the CE and it was well worth it. Hopefully the sales’ll go up in December.
@JasonChrist
Well. I haven’t played it for myself, but from what I’ve seen from the gameplay videos and read from most of the comments of people who have watched the videos and played the game for themselves, it’s not the most favorite version of the game.
Personally, I think SEGA & Sonic Team should have honestly seen this coming.
I mean come on, SG is a great game, don’t get me wrong here. But, Sonic just managed to get back up on his feet after almost an entire decade of falling deeper & deeper into the Abyss of Death.
Releasing SG at the same time as bigger & more anticipated titles such as: MW3, Skyrim, Skyward Sword, etc. was a risky move. I guess they did this on purpose, well knowing that the release of those star-titles was most likely gonna bop-down the overall sales of the game.
But then again, I’m waiting for December to see the look of things, even if Assassins Creed is coming out then.
@Ricardo
Because Ceejus is an idiot whose posts makes no sense whatsoever and prefers to play shitty games like Sonic 4 than gems like Colors and Generations.
@Blade

So fucking agree.
QuietGuy/Blade, the Wii can’t handle the Hedgehog Engine from what I understand. Honestly, I kinda liked SU as a whole, but “just kinda liked it”, I hate hate hate Colors, and I really like SG. I did play both the PS3 and PS2 version of Unleashed though and the PS3 version was far superior, though the PS2 version wasn’t bad either, just recycled the levels for stupid missions a lot. There was also the lacking physics and control and such in the PS2 version of SU and Colors, which has to do with the Hedgehog Engine being absent.
The Wii definitely could not handle SG, both due to the Hedgehog Engine and the graphics. Though I wasn’t blown away by the game’s graphics as a whole, there is a LOT going on in that area of the game, and the models have a crapload of polygons. I suppose that a Wii port is/was a feasible idea, but I don’t see it happening.
@Shenzi
The Hedgehog Engine is a GRAPHICS ENGINE.
no its the engine of the game
@Shenzi
@teirusu

“has no bearings on gameplay style”
Iizuka be mad for not making the Wii port.
Was it so hard to use a modified Colours engine?
Since Black Friday is coming, Sonic Generations 3DS, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 sales should be able to go up. Heck, i’m getting a 3DS and Sonic Generations in the same day. I think since Sega wanted to release Sonic Generations right before the Thanksgiving day parade coming up and the Sonic Balloon is gonna be in it, and Black Friday coming up. To me, I think Sega is really smart coming up with release dates. The only to bad sides are 1. Dimps (The same company that made a EPIC Sonic RPG), is only given 13 months to complete it, and 2. People would want to buy games such as Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3. Which is sad. I read the USA Today paper. +700 million dollars in 5 days! This goes to show that many kids and adults are getting too violent. Our society needs to start looking games about SPEED, not GUNS.
Actually, it’s possible that the 3DS version might get a higher score on some review sites, as I remember Destructoid giving the DS Colors and 8.5 or something, and giving the Wii version a 6.
*Two
^^Not to say that that’s fair, of course.
Remember what Wentos said: Sega makes Wii Sonic games to make up for the big budgets (and losses) of PS360 Sonic games.
@AJBSONIC
Then… wouldn’t it make more sense to NOT make Sonic games for PS360 and simply make a profit on Wii games?
It really is a popular misconception that the Hedgehog Engine is a graphics engine! lol
It is a popular misconception that the Hedgehog Engine has anything to do with gameplay. A popular misconception among people that have absolutely NO idea how video games are made.
@SonicGo!
Well, if the first few acknowledgement screens (shown when booting up) are anything to go by, it’s stated that the Hedgehog Engine is for the graphics while Havok Physics are used for the gameplay.
@A I think that Mario & Sonic sells more because is a game that can be played by everyone.Even peoples that doesn’t know Mario and Sonic at all,since gameplay-wise it as nothing to do with them.
Woah, Mario and Sonic did better than Generations? I have hope that they’ll be continuing the Olympics line, I just LOVED Winter Olympics! It’s a shame Generations is still not doing well, but there’s always Black Friday–I assume people want to buy the game then because they don’t think it’s worth whatever price they find it being sold at.
Sonic Team KNOWS that the Wii is the strongest console going for them right now, and they KNOW how so many people applauded Colors, not just for the gameplay, but for how pristine the graphics were.
Now don’t get me wrong here, I play games for entertainment, but I do take notice of the graphics time-to-time. But even so, there was room for improvement in the graphics department for Colors and had they developed Generations for Wii, all they had to do was use the same formula as Colors and brush up the graphics just a bit.
But NO, they went to the 3DS, which isn’t so pristine from what I’ve seen.
And, I hope that if they ever do make a Wii version of Generations, that it’s not a port. Porting games from the PS3/360 is kind of dumb, seeing that the Wii isn’t as powerful as them.
All they have to do is develop it from the ground-up, which isn’t so hard.
COME ON SONIC TEAM! The Wii’s life cycle may be on the verge of ending, but you can AT LEAST, pay it the 20th Anniversary game.
Although it makes no sense preaching it now, I still think a Wii version should have been made. It really would have helped sales and would have brought a little moisture to the Game Drought that’s plaguing the Wii right now.
I got to disagree with those that think Sonic Generations should not had been on Wii. They could had used the graphics they had in Sonic Colors for Generations. I mean did everyone forget that Sonic Colors won best Wii graphics award in 2011 while Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn’t win it but it got the best Wii game award. That should show you that should be no excuse for not putting Generations on Wii. The only competition Sonic would have had on the Wii is Kirby’s Return to Dreamland and Skyward Sword. What has to be understood is that Sony and Microsoft gamers are mostly aiming for shooting games while Nintendo gamers are looking for mascot character games like Sonic. Also yes SOME Sonic fans have returned after Sonic Generations came out but there are still those who are skeptical because of Sonic 06 Nintendo gamers were spared from that and so Sega’s sales for Sonic on Nintendo platforms did not suffer.
I guess the time to play this game was just too low. I even played colors longer because of the multiplayer modus. Was sure fun with some friends.
Also I’m unsure if PC version was the right thing to do, I like to play it on my pc too but there are more people pirating games on the PC than on any console.
Anyway can’t way to race through the story mode of the 3ds version and keep going on wi-fi after ^^
