Few Signs of Hope Before Black Friday
The week 3 estimates from independent website VGChartz.com have been published, and that means there’s some new data to share to help us see how Sonic Generations is faring. Before going any further, let’s be clear that the numbers are unofficial, and the latest data is referencing the week of November 13th, which is the week before the Black Friday shopping day.
It’s a good thing that’s the case, too, because little promise was seen in the estimates. On the XBOX 360, Generations is estimated to have some just 11,382 units in North America and 6,072 in Europe. Those are week to week declines of more than 43 and 27 percent, respectively.
On the domestic side, news for the PS3 version was more alarming. Just 6,684 units were estimated sold the week of the 13th in North America. That is a decline of more than 53 percent from week 2 estimates. To put it in further perspective, that week number is just over a tenth of what the launch week estimates were on the PS3.
Here’s the glimmer of hope: VGChartz estimates European PS3 sales for Generations went up in week 3. The website estimates 11,080 units combined sold in those territories. That’s up significantly, more than 40 percent from week 2 estimates.
In Europe, those numbers are almost certain to go up when week 4 estimates–the Black Friday numbers–are released, considering that’s exactly what happened in the UK. Plenty of US consumers bought game consoles during Black Friday, so we will see once those estimates are released whether Generations can stop the bleeding domestically. We should also see in the next wave how the 3DS version fared in its launch week. Those numbers will be afforded here once we learn of them.

ouch
Christmas for sure….
Everyone who’s a keener already bought it! And everyone else knows it’ll be 19.99 in six months, like all Sonic titles. That’s the downside of dropping your prices so quickly… you train people to wait!
The best time for most of the people that are shopping for this game would probably be 2 weeks before christmas.
great sonic generations is not doing good and sega may change the style, sigh, sega needs to add some sort of level editor in the game along with leaderboards of course, all the sonic fans are probably playing fan games like blitz sonic and sonic classic, because the levels are new and very fun, also one has a level editor plus you can share those levels, Sega should consider this
@Esrever: guess im a keener, cause i pre-ordered it and bought it a week later, i beat the game 3 hours after it entered my xbox 360
oh and i don’t want to get too off topic but is Skryim good and should i buy it, cause im interested but the setting and the more rpg nature of the game has me questioning it
@sonicplayer:Skyrim is good and yes,you should buy it.
ah yes level editor…ya know…ROBO BLAST could be REBORN that way maybe LOL…Hell a game that started with an old DOOM Engine I think right? I used to make Doom levels many years ago… I had a hard time making things work right in those editors lol. I wonder what happened to all the knowledge that came about to do all that stuff. God there used to be a ginormous FTP site for all that stuff too…anyone remember what it was called? I can’t remember.
Maybe they need to advertise commercials outside of just Cartoon Network…
how sad, a part of me wished SG’s sales would beat SM3L, Skyrim, MW3 and the rest but I knew it wouldn’t happen even if this game made Sonic haters give him another chance.
If Mario gets a float for 2012 thanksgiving I will go insane.
I have no money so i guess christmas will be when i buy it.
