Once a Disaster, Now De-Bugged
The weekend saw the full release of a long developed fan game based on the much maligned 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2D, or STH2D as it’s called, aims to recreate the Sonic story via 2D side-scrolling, minus all the issues plaguing the original. The game contains nine levels and five bosses.
The nearly 300MB game can be downloaded in three parts via Mediafire. A launch trailer has also been released celebrating the game’s completion. That’s below. Thanks to JohnMigle for tipping us. This is a really awesome game.
Some bugs and bad level design make it a slight chore to play though. For example, if you die in Radical Train the train starts from the beginning, making it impossible to complete and thus forcing you to complete the level in one go.
There is also a slight (very minor) bug in Flame Core, where after a couple of rails in the second section there is a chain of Iblis takers. After that chain is a spring directly above you, and if you move even slightly to the right or left it is impossible to get to. It took me a while to figure out how to get to the spring, it would have been a lot better if it was further to the right or further down.
Oh, and one last thing. It looks like some sort of debug element has been left in Aquatic Base, if you click anywhere in that stage a ring capsule spawns for no apparent reason.
Best sonic fangame ever.
The only thing that sucks about this game is that it’s WAY TOO faithful to 06. Down to the very last insta-death sand.
Heard something about this the other day. Glad to see it posted here. I had no idea it existed and S2006 is one of the most interesting games around.

Good effort! But still, anything based on/inspired by 06 is bound to be complete poo.
I did watch the trailer and play it before posting that, since I felt like it was obvious that the game is trash in almost every way. It also features my favorite fangame standby, which is to do a bunch of the shit that the press and intelligent fans mock every time Sega has put out a new game since S3&K, but since it’s made by a fan, the shit’s actually brilliant gameplay/level/sound/graphics design decisions.
Give me a break you pack of hypocrites!
