“We’re working to resolve the situation”

Unfortunately, the relaunch of Sonic CD has not been perfect.  Many users of Android mobile phones–perhaps the most discriminating audience out of all platforms seeing the release, as their users have been passed over for many recent Sega ports–are reporting significant issues downloading the game in the first place.  Newer phones are also having compatibility trouble with the game.  Those issues and others have contributed to plenty of poor ratings for the game on the Android side.

Minutes ago, the Sega Twitter released a statement on the matter.

“We’re aware that people are having trouble downloading Sonic CD for Android, & we’re working to resolve the situation as quickly as we can,” the statement read.

UPDATE: We have this new statement off of Sega’s Twitter regarding the download issues:

Android users: We’re adding another additional server – give us two hours and we should be back in action.

Christian Whitehead, the lead engineer behind the re-release, also attempted to quell concerns.

“The server was being hammered at the time so we’ve had problems accommodating everyone. The bandwidth has been increased so hopefully everything should be working now!”  Whitehead said in an earlier statement on the Sonic Retro forums this morning.

When it became clear that didn’t help much, Whitehead added in a later post, “This download issue is our top priority.”

We’ll bring you any more details when they become available.
