Week 7 Numbers Down on 360/PS3, Way Up on 3DS
Sonic Generations is still a fairly strong seller during this Holiday season in North America, but in the region the game dropped off a touch last week. This, according to the independent website VGChartz.com, which released unofficial sales data today.
The website estimates that the XBOX 360 version again took the lion’s share of sales, with 43,702 units estimated sold. While healthy, it is a more than 22 percent decline week to week. A similar decline occurred with the PS3 version. VGChartz estimates 32,724 units sold there, off from the previous week’s more than 42,000.
The bright spot was with the 3DS edition, which saw a week to week increase. There, an estimated 32,683 copies were sold, a nearly 63 percent increase week to week and about on par with the PS3 version. In fact, VGChartz estimates that ever since the bottom dropped out in week 2, Sonic Generations on 3DS has seen sales increase ever since.
We will pass along European sales estimates for last week once they are made available.

Cool. But why is the 3DS version going so well?
@Knuckles Chaotix I would say its because many fans think sonic is stronger on Nintendo…..plus, the 3DS version has a very interesting level selection.
While I dislike the 3DS version which is definately inferior to the console version the game is probably doing well for the moment because it is one of the few OK games on the 3DS and also because it is Sonic Rush 4.
Oh and what cdrom1019 said.
@Knuckles Chaotix Well its either this or remakes, which would you rather have?
Nintendo console owners really love their platformers. XD
On the go Sonic games are always good simple fun, not to mention lots of kids own a 3DS so that helps the boost in sales. Sadly this will continue the tradition of Sega/Sonic team not really trying to release decent handheld titles and just have half-arsed quick-buck versions of bigger titles. Not to say generatios 3DS isn’t fun. It could of been so much more.
Sonic pairs up well with Nintendo, which consistently has more fans of platforming games than those for Sony and Microsoft systems. Nintendo’s machines, whether home or handheld, has always been associated with platforming games.
For instance, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure on the Wii has sold over twice as much as on the Xbox 360, the second best-selling version.
