Is the Damage Done with One Day at Full Price?

It appears Sega’s had a change of heart, at least when it comes to the mobile re-release of Sonic CD.  Following success over the weekend that was nearly squandered when the price hiked to $4.99 on Monday, the $1.99 price point for SCD returned promptly Tuesday morning, and it will stay that way for a while.

“The response has been tremendous, and we love seeing all of you enjoying the game so much,” said community manager Kate Burning on the Sega blog this evening.  “We want to make sure that everyone who wanted Sonic CD at the introductory price of $1.99 can purchase it at that price, so we’re extending our sale price for Sonic CD in the iTunes App Store and Android Marketplace through January 24th.”

But on iPhone and iPod Touch at least, the switch may be too little, too late.  As of this article’s publication, the SCD price drop has only erected a floor on what would have been an unfortunate free-fall.  Currently, the game stands 8th among the Top Paid apps, and 14th among the Top Grossing.  By itself, that is respectable, but considering the ranks were 3rd and 6th respectively on Sunday night, it’s a lot of lost momentum the game may never get back.  We will see in the coming days and weeks.

It does not appear any price cut is coming to the XBOX 360 or the PSN, where Sonic CD just saw release on domestic systems.
