Another Day, Another Difference, And Another Fix

In another instance of classic corporate miscommunication, we’ve confirmed that as of this article’s publication (about 1AM ET), Sonic CD on the iOS is showing a $2.99 price point for iPhone and iPod Touch at least on the app store.  This, when Sega’s Kate Burning announced the previously “introductory” price of $1.99 would stand through next month just hours before.

Seeing as the price was $1.99 for most of the day Tuesday, this isn’t just an easy excuse for the above header graphic (points if you get the reference.)  It’s another surprise increase that, while not quite as tough to swallow as the sudden $4.99 re-institution Monday, may still be enough to deter new customers.

It’s not like the $1.99 price helped, though.  As of this article’s publication, SCD actually dropped a place on the Top Paid apps in recent hours; it is now 9th overall.  The game has held its 14th spot in the Top Grossing charts.

In a nutshell, Sega again does not know what it’s doing, and one of the most celebrated re-releases among fans may suffer as a result.  We will see how fast Sega fixes the problem, if it’s even fixable at this point–remember that Apple in effect shuts down for the Holidays tomorrow, the 22nd.

4PM ET Update: Sega has quickly reversed the above mistake on iOS this afternoon.  Sonic CD now correctly displays a $1.99 price point in the App Store, just before Apple employees took a week long vacation.  Crisis averted!
