See a new trailer and prepare for the second alpha test
Sonic Team seems to be taking the slow and steady approach to their upcoming release of Phantasy Star Online 2. Despite being announced over a year ago, the game remains in a non-public alpha state. The trickle of media continued on Christmas Eve, with the Phantasy Star Online 2 “Fan Briefing” at the Akihabara PC Game Festival. A lengthy presentation showed numerous gameplay features for the first time on video. The event was broadcast live on Sega’s own Phantasy Star Online 2 uStream channel, and while it was not archived there, members of the PSOWorld community captured and posted the briefing. You can follow the link to their site if you want to watch the full presentation, but for the time being, here’s the gameplay trailer that was part of the event:

Over at Bumped.org, they have a pretty detailed english recap of all the major features showcased during the “Fan Briefing”, including changes to the character creator, the introduction of player rooms, overviews of new monster types and more.
There’s still no word from Sega if Phantasy Star Online 2 will be seeing an english release, but I’m personally keeping my fingers crossed – and as long as this game is being left to slowly simmer, I’m sure there’s a lot of non-Japanese PSO fans that would love to give their input on these alpha tests.
