Presidential candidates oppose bill

This week saw blackouts across the internet as websites protested against the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act), with websites fearing content could be unfairly censored, and the protest has had the desired impact: SOPA has been withdrawn … for now.

Lamar Smith – the Texas Congressman who was one of the key figures behind SOPA – has pulled the bill due to a need for a “wider agreement on a solution.” In a telephone interview with Reuters, Smith said he took criticisms towards the acts “seriously” and said he needed to “revisit” how to address copyright infringement.

The Huffington Post also have a video of presidential candidates showing their opposition the bill, with strong audience reactions to those who do.
