UPDATE: With Tim Schafer launching a Kickstarter project or something, Notch has updated fans on Psychonauts 2. On Tumblr he says they plan to meet at GDC, other parties are interested in investing … and to stop hyping the damn game (for now).

Earlier today an interview with Tim Schafer, the founder of Double Fine, explained how he had pitched Psychonauts 2 to numerous publishers but none had been willing to cough up the cash. However, Schafer also explained that part of the reason Psychonauts 2 could happen is because his studio – Double Fine – can now work on multiple projects: [W]e have multiple projects … one of us could be working on a sequel and one of us could be working on a new game.”
Shortly after the article went live, Markus Persson – the developer of the cult indie game, Minecraft – offered Schafer a lifeline over Twitter:
Of course the internet exploded, with websites across the web reporting the news. Earlier this evening, Tim Schafer himself offered a hint that he was considering the proposal after a barrage of texts:

Psychonauts is considered one of the best (and sadly, underrated) games to come out of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era. I regret that I’ve never played this amazing game.

I usually don’t mind when TSSZ talks about other things, but this is really beyond blue. Especially when this story knocks back all this Sonic 1 beta speculation, which if actually real would be a mind-blowing breakthrough for the community.

It’s been out on PC for years and was just ported to Mac it’s a quality platformer full of charm and character, it was lightyears ahead of the garbage Sonic game they were putting out around that time.
