Not Compatible with Sony’s New Handheld…Yet
We are only a couple of weeks away from the launch of Sony’s Playstation Vita system. Among the new portable’s features is backward compatibility with several titles from the Playstation Portable.
Today, Sony released a list of compatible PSP titles able to be transferred and played on the PS Vita, and while there are a couple hundred that make the list, two notable ones for Sonic fans did not. Both Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2 will not be backward compatible with the Vita, at least not in time for the handheld’s launch.
Company representatives will update the list of compatible titles as needed, but there is little indication as to the intervals updates would be made. We’ll let you know if and when compatibility is confirmed for the Rivals series. Thanks to AugieD who tipped us on Twitter.

Rivals wasn’t the best game… I didn’t like it as much. But it does have it’s charm. I for one do not mind it’s not compatible. However if they made a brand new one for the PS Vita, then let it be ~
There’s not a single SEGA game on the list, hopefully that changes.
Here’s some high quality Rivals 2 gameplay (can’t find much of this online): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8G2YyK_irM
It looks really good, but is kinda bland in gameplay. Reminds me of the modern stages in Generations 3DS, though at least those stages had more than one enemy per stage XD
Well, VT4 is being released, so that’s one SEGA game on the Vita. And Monkey Ball is coming soon also.
And it’s funny because I made the Sonic Rivals comment on PSN last night.
Rivals was terrible. I went out of my way to borrow my friend’s PSP and bought them both only for the gameplay, story, graphics (serously, SR & SRA look better), and even music to be sub-par or outright terrible. Sega & Backbone ought to be beat over the head with every copy of those games printed.
Slightly off topic, hows this work anyways? Don’t you have to still pay some fee to play your old PSP games on you Vita? And even then, what about save data?
Whoops, misunderstood that, this option is for games downloaded through the PSN not for physical games. I thought for a second they worked something out.
