Underwater, Snow, Carnival, Special Stage Areas Shown
We’re not sure if this is an Oops moment on account of Microsoft, but no matter–we have our first look at scenes from Sonic 4: Episode II in the form of screenshots released to XBOX.com today.
Let’s get you right to those screenshots in the gallery below. Thanks to Allan Park, Professor Pickle, and AugieD on Twitter for tipping us. More information is on the way shortly.

I like how in every webpage I go like Sonic Retro, there are almost all positive comments, reactions, and feedback, while there are only like 1 or 2 trolls around them.
But seriously, CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS GAME! IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!
@ Chris K.
If you even think the wonderful northen lights in the sixth screenshot look horrible, I feel sorry for your taste in skies.
Oh gosh, I -love- the colours and the overall styling of the level designs here. It’s like a harmony between the psuedo-realism of the modern era and the zany enviroments of the classic era (minus Scrap Brain and such, of course), rather than way over on either side.
Wow. This beats the shit out of Episode 1.
Chris K., shut the hell up!
Lovin’ dat Little Planet in the background. :3
I know hindsight is a tough thing to predict, but with this unexpected plethora of great screenshots of a true 2.5D Sonic game, it makes me wonder something…why didn’t SEGA just simply reveal the ingame graphics from the start? I mean, this pretentious secrecy of theirs is part of the reason why they failed in the past.
Revealing the Werehog AFTER the Unleashed announcement, revealing the true artstyle of Sonic 4 E1 AFTER the teaser showed otherwise, revealing Shadow & Silver AFTER the 2006 announcement…what I’m saying is that telling the truth at once earlier would be a boon to the marketing strategy, rather than showing one thing earlier and a contradictory part of the game later. It would also show how confident SEGA is of themselves.
I hope they take this leak as a lesson to show all main details earlier (not just concept art) for all future Sonic games. That way, the consumer will take it easier.
Now, having typed that behemoth up, I almost cried benevolently at the sight of these screenshots- I even have one of them (row 1, picture 2) as my new desktop image. In other words, SEGA did good this time.n And hey, on Xbox360 and PS3, we can just simply play a demo so that we can see the physics for ourselves before deciding to buy, so it’s all good.
@DarkChirano
A demo for EP2 would be nice.
YES THIS IS LOOKIN SEXYLICIOUS LICIOUSSEXY!!! Is it only coming on XBOX 360 and PS3? Can we get some Apples and 3 Dimensional Dual Screens and Android 18′s?
@Anonymous
My tastes reflect that I am not gay. I just feel like vomiting at the happy rainbow drugged up look of the skies.
@Chris K. …..You mean what early dawn looks like? Get out more, and you’ll see all kinds of interesting things.
@darkgomugomu
Last time I check the skies never look that way. Unless your way near the northern and southern poles perhaps. Around here its all oranges and yellows.
lol Chris K judges a game based on never seeing different kinds of skies.
A few of these screenshots look so much like they’re in Aquatic Ruin Zone… I hope I’m right.
But yeah, these levels don’t look too bad, they’re not rehashed, and they look really cool.
@DarkChirano
A demo of this game would be the game XD
It seems like this game takes place up north, probably in a completely different ocean than Angel/South/Christmas/Westside Island. Of course, that’s realistically speaking.
@ Chris K.
Well, yes, that’s why it’s called ‘Northen Lights’, so clearly Sonic and Tails are exploring a very northern area of the Earth. I even stated that they’re northen lights in my initial post.
Also, since I’m presuming you’re above childish humor going by your way of speech, you’re saying having this taste of sky means I am happy/gay. Which I am, since I have seen northen lights and they are a -wonderful- thing to see for yourself, and it’s amazing to see them being replicated in Sonic’s colourful enviroments. Unless you’re using gay in the context of lolhomosexual, in which case I (and everyone else should) stop bothering you.
It would be super cool if this game could combine with EP1 and update those graphics and allow Tails to be playable. Like Sonic and Knuckles essentially. Of course, then I’d actually have to buy EP1, and even worse I’d have to get it on my PS3. And if this game ends up with 4 episodes, the overall price would be 60$ and I guarantee a collection would be out for that. It kind of makes the way they’re approaching this stupid because if they come out bi-yearly the finished product (still assuming 4 episodes) won’t be out until…2016 O.o
