Animating the Blue Blur One Flip at a Time
Animation is usually delivered in a digital, transmittable manner such as television. Because of this, many other unique forms of animation are easily overlooked, and our Fan Friday spotlight this week showcases one of those forms. YouTube user BloodyRenegadeX is skilled in the art of the flip book, and he has put his talent to use in the creation of several Sonic-themed pieces. The video below contains all three of his highly-detailed flip books that feature the blue blur, and while the video starts off slow, the net result is definitely worth a look.
The rest of his library of work can be seen on his YouTube channel here, and we encourage you to check out everything else he has to offer. We’re always on the lookout for fan works to spotlight, so if you’ve got something interesting to share, send us a link at fansonfriday@tssznews.com!

Very impressive stuff right here. Major kudos to BloodyRenegadeX.
Very cool
YESSS!!!! now that’s friggin awesome…hopefully one day that will be animated in full color too…cause that looks damn damn good!
Wow.
That is incredible.
Talented stuff right there.
God i need a flipbook. I did an animation, but it was only 20 frames, and took me 3 hours.
Absolutely amazing. Very amazing how you can make paper come alive and very simple and straightforward. I forgot all about paper films. This is good for beginner drawing as well as beginner animation.
The animations remind me a lot of Stardust Speedway in the SonicCD ending movie
I saw this some time ago. It has a Sonic CD vibe to it.
Wow… Tssz slowed down quick after the past weeks explosion… I hope Episode 2′s physics don’t slow down this fast!! XD
I remember when I used to make animations like that when I was 8 and 9, then I started doing traditional animation on the computer by converting the same concept. That’s actually how I taught myself the basic laws of animation and is the root of how I am capable of doing the many things I do today.
Amazing flipbook “videos” this guy has made too.
I love how lively an energetic these animations are which is brought out by the sketchy style of the linework.
