Sonic Unleashed, Yakuza Producer Makes Big Jump
Today in Japan, Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. announced several management and personnel changes across four of the company’s divisions, including Sega.
While it appears the domestic divisions are not impacted, Sega of Japan has seen one retirement and four promotions. Of much surprise and excitement to many Sega fans is the promotion of Toshihiro Nagoshi to Chief Creative Officer among the shuffling. Nagoshi is known as the mind behind the popular Yakuza series, but he’s also worked on other memorable Sega fare, including the Super Monkey Ball series and Shenmue among many others. Sonic fans may know him from being credited on Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Heroes, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Advance 3, and a few other Sonic Team projects.
Other changes within Sega of Japan management include the bump up of Naoya Tsurumi to President and COO of the company, and Shigeru Yamashita to Managing Director. The changes will go into effect April 1st.
While the Nagoshi news may be exciting for gamers, it and the other changes have not sat well with investors today. As of this article’s publication, Sega Sammy stock on the pink sheets is trading two and two thirds percent lower, well under five bucks a share.
