Plenty of Items, But Plenty Pricey
Ahead of the game’s proper release, the XBOX Live marketplace was populated today with avatar items for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. In our gallery below, you can see some of the items, including a handful modeled on virtual mannequins.
The apparel ranges from T-shirts and both Sonic and Tails costumes, to toy avatars in both animal and badnik form, a modeled half-pipe Special Stage, a Metal Sonic helmet and toy, and a game cartridge. But with all the items, it appears Sega either didn’t learn any lessons from the arguably overpriced ASR avatars, or simply doesn’t care. Only the T-shirts run 80 MSP ($1), with the Tails costume going at a premium, at 320 MSP ($4). Overall, if a player bought every item, one would spend 2,560 MSP, or a staggering $32–much more than Sega could hope to charge for Episode II itself.
For better or worse, that price may reflect the basic rules of supply and demand–especially regarding the Tails costume. While a risk, given the apparent sorry state of affairs Sega is in, the company may not have much of a choice on price. Thanks to VizardJeffhog for tipping us.
