“LOst is no longer a part of S2HD”
Minutes ago, Sonic 2 HD project manager Canned Karma released a short statement concerning this morning’s alleged discovery of a keylogger mechanism embedded within the alpha release of Sonic 2 HD.
In the brief remarks, made on Sonic Retro’s forums, Canned Karma says the game’s programmer, LOst, has been cut from the project in light of the new allegations.
“All of us had the exact same reaction everyone here did, and we’re actively looking into it to the best of our abilities,” the statement read. “That said, we’ve heard just as much from LOst as anyone here has lately, so I’m not sure what, if anything, we’ll be able to find that corroborated or refutes what’s been brought to light. I will say this though. LOst is no longer a part of S2HD. I’ll have a more in depth response soon. We’re just as pissed off about this as the community is.”
The remarks come only after news of the keylogger setup spread through numerous media outlets, large and small, and after an update to the Sonic 2 HD Facebook page completely ignored the controversy at hand.
In case that wasn’t enough, we are gathering and working to corroborate some information that suggests at least some who downloaded the Sonic 2 HD alpha build may have had their computers and their personal data compromised. We are checking to see if that sort of mess can be considered coincidental, but in at least one case we’ve received, it does not appear to be. We hope to have more information on that front shortly.
