Anarchy Reigns Not Included in Anemic Showcase
As part of Sega’s reveal for E3 plans next week, community manager Kellie Parker made a note to expect some food pics amid the E3 action next week on the company’s new Instagram feed. It’s ironic, then, that the game promoters will document their overindulgence in Los Angeles’s restaurants, as Sega’s game lineup itself–looking downright anorexic–could use that excess much more.
Games at E3:
- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
- Aliens: Colonial Marines
- Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz
- The Cave
- Hell Yeah!
- Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
- Jet Set Radio
None of the games Sega listed on display for this year’s show are titles you haven’t heard before. Some, like JSR and VF5 Final Showdown, will be released in a matter of weeks, if not days. Only two games–ASR Transformed and Aliens: Colonial Marines–can be considered standouts, major titles that may very well determine the health of the company this fiscal year. In the case of the latter, that may be wishful thinking, as Sega’s blog pegs a 2013 release for Aliens: CM‘s Wii U edition–missing an assumed Holiday launch for Nintendo’s next system. The notable omission of Anarchy Reigns from the list should ring alarm bells. The only wildcards left are whether we see Sonic Adventure 2 in some form at the show, and whether Sega will confirm a Wii U edition of ASR Transformed. Both appear to be strong possibilities.
But barring a surprise, this is Sega’s hand for E3, and likely the next several months domestically. Tell us your thoughts about that below in the comments. TSSZ will afford E3 coverage all next week. We’ll be on the lookout for any major Sega surprises, and brief you on the core of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft’s press conferences.
