GameStop Document Discloses Wii U Launch, Upcoming Titles

by August 2, 2012

Why is ASR Transformed Not Listed?

An alleged list of potential Wii U launch titles, as well as possible games for the system that may drop during the Holidays or shortly thereafter but after launch, has been revealed in a Gamestop packet that began circulating at some of its stores this week.  This, according to the website ZeldaInformer.

Among the highlights of the list are Pikmin 3 and Game & Wario as apparent launch titles, with other fare like New Super Mario Bros. U, Scribblenauts Unlimited and Mass Effect 3 following after.  On the Sega side, however, only one title was listed.  That title was Aliens: Colonial Marines, and despite assurances the game will be out in February, GameStop lists its status as “TBA.”

Even more peculiar, however, is the outright exclusion of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the document.  The game has been confirmed for Wii U, though you wouldn’t know it if you take official word as gospel; it has been mentioned only twice in passing on the Sega blog and once in a Nintendo release from E3.  Outside of those sources, little detail has surfaced as to any unique qualities of the Wii U edition.  The focus, to this point, has been on XBOX 360, PS3 and the Playstation Vita.

While there’s no reason to suspect trouble for the Wii U version yet–it is far more likely the document in question was printed earlier this year, or Sega is strictly abiding by a Nintendo NDA–recent history does suggest that when Sega stops talking about a game or a particular version of a game, the wait for the game itself becomes longer.  A good example is the upcoming re-release of Jet Set Radio; it was last seen at E3, when a Summer release was confirmed.  Only confirmation of a port to mobile devices has been mentioned since, with Summer now halfway over.

On that, we should finally note that ASR Transformed is not yet available for pre-order on Gamestop’s online site.
