Report: ASR Transformed on Wii U to Support 5x Offline Multiplayerby Tristan Oliver August 24, 2012
One Tasty Tidbit from Gamescom
Stop us if you’ve heard this before, because while it appears to be the first we’ve heard of it in the mainstream, it does still sound quite familiar. Embedded within a write-up about potential Wii U woes on GamesRadar, which includes considerable concern about whether Wii U can make a Holiday launch anywhere, is one promising tidbit once Nintendo does ship its next system. It happens to relate to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, no less.
Writer Justin Towell says in the piece that ASR Transformed for Wii U will support offline multiplayer for up to five players. The extra GamePad monitor will make such a thing possible:
It seems that the GamePad’s screen doesn’t need loads of processing power to get it working in tandem with the on-screen action. Case in point: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which will apparently feature a five-player mode, with four players on the TV in split-screen and another on the GamePad. That’s mighty impressive and we can’t wait to see it in action.
That’s a great feature to have, but will anyone be able to use it by the end of the year? Towell also writes later in the piece that during his ASR Transformed demo that a PR rep claimed the Wii U hardware was still being revised. It’s not clear whether those words came from a Nintendo or Sega representative, but no matter the case, it’s not a good sign to hear that so close to a purported launch. As we reported earlier in the month, any Wii U delay past the Holidays could jeopardize the chance of ASR Transformed’s success, seeing as Sonic titles tend to sell better on Nintendo systems. We will continue to monitor the game and the console’s progress to launch.
