Worlds — and Pixels — Collide
Archie continues its major promotional push for the upcoming Sonic and Mega Man crossover event dubbed Worlds Collide.
Late on Thursday, IGN released two special covers for parts six and seven of the arc. The 16-bit variant alternates will cover Sonic #249 and Mega Man #26. Sonic fans should get a kick out of the Mega Man #26 variant as it harkens back to the days of Sonic CD with a twist–the blue bomber himself taking on Metal Sonic.
Take a look at both covers below in the gallery.

Eh, these covers look okay but they should have kept it simpler and not filled the thing with random characters in the background
Somehow I don’t like these, normally I love sprite work too.
These suck. Archie must have realized they could save some money by spending 10 minutes with a few sprites in Photoshop.
The Metal Sonic one looks alright but the other is a jumbled mess all the sprites are from random games like Tails from Sonic 2, Sonic is modified from Sonic Battle, the background is from Megaman 7 but the Megaman sprites are from Megaman & Bass
They’re not THAT bad.
I like the concepts ( Rock fighting Metal, Sonic fighting Bass) but the covers themselves do look a bit…tacky. I guess I’ve just seen better sprite artwork done and it has spoiled me on this, but I’ll buy them regardless because of collector OCD….
Cool idea, but they’re a mess of pixel densities and cruddy Photoshop effects. Like that swoop coming off of the Tornado? Really? No one thought these looked bad? Blech. It looks like something pulled off an amateur’s DeviantArt page.

They’re VARIANT covers…. How would they be saving money by producing an EXTRA BONUS cover at all?
The Sonic sprite is from Sonic Battle, which is 32-bit, not 16-bit. :/
yeah, I like the Mega Man one, but the Sonic one seems a little poor to me.
@Dannybee92 because an illustrator could take hours to make and ink just one. These, I could slap together in Photoshop in 15 minutes. You could probably still save money doing 5 covers like this lol.
