In Case You’re Keeping the Faith
We understand you still want to believe that this weekend’s Sega produced Internet livestream will produce something significant, perhaps related to the next Sonic game. Our Japan reporter translated the details, but it seems many still want to keep the faith.
So, we Tweeted directly to one of the livestream’s participants, Jun Senoue, via the Crush 40 account. Here is his clear explanation on what’s going on:
Nothing serious. RT @tssznews Dear @crush40, what’s this all about, and why are you on for 90 minutes in the middle of the night?
— crush40 (@crush40) January 30, 2013
February 4th (2/4) is the day of “Puyo” and Sega will have “24″ hours broadcasting to promote Sega’s products incl. “Puyo”. @tssznews
— crush40 (@crush40) January 30, 2013
There will be 90 mins segment for “Sonic” related stuff and Takashi Iizuka, Kazuyuki Hoshino and I will be there. @tssznews
— crush40 (@crush40) January 30, 2013
The bottom line: If something major is being announced this weekend, it’s not coming from Japan. We thank Jun for clearing the air for us over Twitter. Occasionally, we do break stories there, so why not follow us?

@Sonic52789
“Let’s see, if Sonic Adventure 3 gets announced this weekend (or this year) then that would be cool!”
If by ‘cool’, you mean as cold as that iceberg that sunk the Titanic… unless you watch Doctor Who. The meteorite shower that totaled that Titanic -was- pretty cool. Meteorites in place of icebergs, man!
Either way, both SA3 and Titanic sunk before they began.
@Anonymouse,
Um… dude? That made absolutely NO SENSE at all…
Anyone in the right state of mind would know that by ‘cool’, he wasn’t referring to something as random as ‘The iceberg that sunk the Titanic’
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against you or anything, but you need to come up with a better remark.
On the other hand, a SA3 would be awesome, but I doubt it’s gonna happen. Maybe they can just throw in a few Adventure elements in the next Sonic game (we need those adventure fields back, and being able to play as Tails and/or Knuckles XD )
@Gnat1: Yeah, that’s kind of what they’re gonna do (according to the rumor), they are gonna add multiple playable characters, and, even though only Adventure 1 and 06 had Adv. Fields (Adv. formula), it would be really neat to have them back in the next game. As I said, with all the things there, it COULD be a Sonic Adventure 3. I really don’t care about the name, but if SEGA puts that name in it, there will be a lot of controversy. Just like the one being had right now. In these past years.
Except, LOADS more.
@MM2
Chill the hell out, the heads at Sonic Team are letting their hair down and playing some games on a livestream. If your not interested, your not interested.
–THEY’RE NOT YOUR SLAVES!–
I’m not that interested myself but it would be interesting to see how Iizuka and co actually play their own games.
Do you think they’ed be experts or amateurs? I’ve love to see them take on the sonic unleashed day stages, just when I think I’ve seen it all someone on youtube manages to show me a new way of completing those stages… Still have no idea where that alternate path at the end of empire city comes from… what the hell is up there??
@Gnat1
Bloody hell, an actual ‘no fun allowed’ guy! I thought those were just YouTube legends!
Come on, are you really going to deny that comparing the nature of Sonic Adventure 3 to the Titanic is too easy to -not- bring up? It’s a tale with a destiny of failure; just like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 and Sonic 06/every retelling of the Titanic, the Adventure formula/iceberg will be there laying in wait to get lazy game developers fired/kill people. Undeniably canny relationship between the two, see?
Unless you really want a serious answer, even though everyone already knows Chao in Space 3 (easily the most defining feature of the Adventure formula) was already in Crisis City back in Sonic 06! Why be serious about that?
Hold on wait. When I say I want SEGA to announce Sonic Adventure 3, I’m not saying I just want them to slap the title on the game. A Sonic game must meet certain qualities to be SA3. Chao World, Spirit of ADVENTURE, Amazing story, and everything else that made SA1 & SA2 so great.
This is for everyone who is saying that the Adventure Era fans are just asking for a game to be titled SA3, not caring about the game itself and only about the fact that it is an Adventure series game. Because that is seriously not true
One more thing, how come everyone keeps saying that if SEGA makes Sonic Adventure 3, they know it’s gonna stink and they don’t want it to be made.
But, you don’t know that. What if Sonic Adventure 3 turns out amazing? Ever think about that?
@Sonic52789:
I’m not saying I just want them to slap the title on the game.
So why not just ask for a game that has Adventure Era qualities, rather than the game being titled “SONIC FRIGGIN’ ADVENTURE 3″? Sega may end up thinking you guys want a direct sequel to SA2 (or rather, Shadow. Since, you know, that was when the Adventure Era series ended storywise.), and… let’s be honest, do any of us really want that? Sure, SOME people might, but that’s a very small minority.
A Sonic game must meet certain qualities to be SA3.
Okay, let’s run down the list.
Chao World,
It’s a nice novelty, but is it really necessary? Is that the deciding factor for a Sonic game to qualify as an Adventure title?
Spirit of ADVENTURE,
Most games in the series have a sense of adventure.
Amazing story,
As long as it’s not trying to be super-edgy and dark, I’ll be okay with it.
and everything else that made SA1 & SA2 so great.
You didn’t really specify.
If Sonic Team makes a game styled after the Adventure games, preferably using the Hedgehog Engine, except with less jarring gameplay elements (treasure hunting has got to go) and glitches (in the case of SA1 and 2006), I probably wouldn’t mind. But I don’t see why people are begging for a new game called “SONIC ADVENTURE 3″. Does no one remember the Sonic 4 fiasco? People have said this before–SA3 would just be a 3D Sonic 4. It’s not necessary as the Adventure games ended seven years ago at this point. Not to mention that you don’t seem to have taken into account that part of the group who constantly pester Sega to make SA3 have stupidly high expectations, and if the game IS made, more people may end up disliking the game rather than actually liking it.
The games have seen such improvement over the last five years, to see it slump back into mediocrity, or get even remotely close, would be soul-crushing. That’s what I’m afraid might happen if Sega decides to cave in and green-light Sonic Adventure 3.
@Amuro – “People have said this before–SA3 would just be a 3D Sonic 4″ So you’re saying you think SA3 will stink just because Sonic 4 got bad reviews? Nice logic, not
You don’t think SEGA listens to their fans?! Don’t you think SEGA would have learned their lesson and now be able to improve?!
You said a game doesn’t have to be titled as a sequel to be counted as another installment (again, perfect logic), it could just have the same qualities. So, your saying Sonic Colors is basically a sequel to Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Generations is the real Sonic 4.
Sonic Adventure 3 is going to be announced this year, because people miss the original true 3D Sonic series
@Sonic52789:
So you’re saying you think SA3 will stink just because Sonic 4 got bad reviews?
*sigh* Fucking idiot…
I never said SA3 is necessarily going to suck. If you actually read my comment, you’d see that. I made the comparison to Sonic 4 because, like Sonic 4, Sonic Adventure 3 would be an unnecessary installment to a subseries of games which already concluded years ago.
You don’t think SEGA listens to their fans?! Don’t you think SEGA would have learned their lesson and now be able to improve?!
Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. Even if the game does turn out good, people from all sides of the spectrum are still going to bitch about it. Be it because Sega finally caved in, or a character model is slightly off, if it doesn’t meet you fanboys’ stupidly high expectations, there are going to be a ton of people who will make a stink about the game.
You said a game doesn’t have to be titled as a sequel to be counted as another installment (again, perfect logic),
Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World uses the same fighting engine as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, but it’s considered to be in the same series despite not being called something akin to “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 4″. Super Mario Galaxy uses similar gameplay mechanics and has a similar structure to Super Mario 64, but that game isn’t called “Super Mario 64-3″. Oh, I’m sorry, you were saying?
it could just have the same qualities.
Looks like you’re starting to understand my point!
So, your saying Sonic Colors is basically a sequel to Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Generations is the real Sonic 4.
And you fucking lost it. And yes, I do consider Colors a sequel to Unleashed, since it uses the same gameplay style as the Daytime stages, but on a less powerful system.
Sonic Adventure 3 is going to be announced this year, because people miss the original true 3D Sonic series
Unless you can read the minds of the Sega employees, don’t make statements that you can’t verify. If it does get announced, I’ll be keeping close tabs on it, hoping that it turns out to be a good game. If it doesn’t get announced, I’ll just laugh at you since you very well could have put your foot in your fucking mouth.
@Amuro – First of all watch your language. I bet you are just some little kid that just got permission to use the “f-word” >_> So please, be mature not a brat.
Your still not seeing what I’m saying. When was the last time you raised a chao in chao world? (not the one in Sonic Chronicles, I’m talking about the original) Did you in Sonic 06 or Sonic Unleashed/The REAL SA3? Don’t think so. People miss Chao World
When was the last time you used the spin dash?! The Adventure series (Sonic 06 doesn’t count because it was broken). People miss the spin dash
Other than Sonic 06 & Sonic Heroes, when was the last time you played multiple stories that connect and leads to a LAST STORY?! People miss the Last Story
Oh and for the record, I’m HOPING on Sonic Adventure 3. I’m always gonna keep faith they will make it someday. That doesn’t mean I will be upset if a different Sonic game was announced. Are you telling me you won’t get excited if Sonic Adventure 3 gets announced? I will, and so will the entire Sonic fanbase. Don’t say “No they won’t! Maybe a small majority!” Check the internet and tell me how many thousands of people you see demanding Sonic Adventure 3. Plus the Sonic Adventure 3 chant and Sonic Boom.
You may now go ahead and quote every detail in my comment so you can try to throw my hopes down. Because it will make you feel like you know what you’re talking about
@Sonic52789:
Good lord… Alright, time to dissect this reply too.
First of all watch your language. I bet you are just some little kid that just got permission to use the “f-word” >_> So please, be mature not a brat.
First off, this is the internet. If you have a problem with people cursing, you should not be here. Secondly, you are not, I repeat NOT, my fucking parent. I don’t know you, and you don’t know me. So, you shouldn’t be acting like you have some sort of authority over me, because you don’t. By the way, I’m a high school senior getting ready for college in a few months. I’m far from a little brat, which is more than I can say for you.
When was the last time you raised a chao in chao world? (not the one in Sonic Chronicles, I’m talking about the original) Did you in Sonic 06 or Sonic Unleashed/The REAL SA3? Don’t think so. People miss Chao World
Like I said, it’s a nice novelty, but is it a significant gameplay factor that makes or breaks whether or not a game counts as an Adventure title? Okay then, so I guess by your logic, all three Sonic Advance games are also Sonic Adventure titles then.
When was the last time you used the spin dash?! The Adventure series (Sonic 06 doesn’t count because it was broken). People miss the spin dash
Didn’t I say in one of my previous posts that I agreed that the spin dash should come back? Can you read?
Oh and for the record, I’m HOPING on Sonic Adventure 3.
Oh, so now you’re hoping instead of outright declaring that Sonic Adventure 3 would absolutely be announced, like you did at the end of your last post.
I’m always gonna keep faith they will make it someday.
I never said you weren’t allowed to. Again, it seem to me that you just skimmed my post.
That doesn’t mean I will be upset if a different Sonic game was announced.
Weren’t you whining two years ago when Generations was announced instead of SA3?
Are you telling me you won’t get excited if Sonic Adventure 3 gets announced?
Not so much “excited” as “cautious”. If it does get announced, I’ll have to just suck it up and deal with it. But I’m going to be keeping a very close eye on whatever’s announced, since I don’t want to end up playing something akin to Sonic 2006, Sonic 4, or worse than either of those two games.
I will, and so will the entire Sonic fanbase. Don’t say “No they won’t! Maybe a small majority! Check the internet and tell me how many thousands of people you see demanding Sonic Adventure 3.
Because one group in a fan community represents the entire fanbase. To quote you in your response to me, “Nice logic, not”.
By the way, when I brought up the “small minority” argument, I meant when I said that if someone hears Sonic Adventure 3, they might think that it’s a direct sequel to Sonic Adventure 2, or rather, Shadow, since the Adventure games led up to and ended with that title. Obviously a large amount of people want Sonic Adventure 3, but that percentage of people does NOT, I repeat NOT, represent the ENTIRE FANBASE. It sure as hell does not represent me, and I would prefer to move on with the franchise rather than going back about a decade and fulfilling the wet dreams of a bunch of random Sonic fans on the internet.
You may now go ahead and quote every detail in my comment so you can try to throw my hopes down.
God, now I understand how RockXLight felt when I was arguing with him. You were being snarky to me when I made calm, non-sarcastic replies to your statements, and now you wanna cry when I insult you back? Fuck you. Just… just fuck you.
Because it will make you feel like you know what you’re talking about
The irony in this statement is fucking astounding.
@Amuro – You know I’m just laughing at how serious you’re taking all this. Am I the one swearing over a video game?
Time to be the mature one and end this argument, because you would obviously keep this going on forever (or at least until SA3 gets announced).
If you think SA3 is a bad idea, good for you. I think SA3 will be amazing. I’m just saying you don’t need to shoot down people’s hopes when ever they mention SA3.
@Sonic52789: I’m not really taking it that seriously, I’m just surprised at how retarded your replies to me have been. And it seems that you realized how retarded they were too, since you didn’t bother trying to debunk any of my arguments just now. And if people quit bringing SA3 up all the damn time, I won’t have any reason to be a cynical bastard, now would I?
And also, I love how you’re saying you think the game will be amazing when we don’t have any confirmation that it’ll actually happen, let alone any gameplay footage.
Good day, sir.
@Amuro – “And if people quit bringing SA3 up all the damn time, I won’t have any reason to be a cynical bastard”
Well at least you admit it. Quit being a troll destroying people’s hopes, and get a life
@Sonic52789: Oh, quit crying and using that retarded ‘destroying my dreams’ argument, if you can even call it that. Do you realize how much you sound like such a little bitch when you say that?
“Waah, mommy, Amuro’s destroying my dreams of Sonic Adventure 3 being made!!”
Grow up. People aren’t always going to support or agree with your views. If you can’t handle a few disagreements here and there, especially over a fucking video game, you should not be on the Internet. Like, at all.
Better yet, if you hold Sonic Adventure 3 in such high regard as to it being one of your major dreams in life, heed your own fucking advice and get a life, hypocrite.
Like I said, if fanboys like you would shut the hell up about SA3 and how it will ‘save Sonic’ for more than two seconds, then people like me wouldn’t be so hostile towards you wanting the game. Just quit bringing up all the damn time, that’s all I’m asking. It’s really not that hard. I don’t care if you want the game, but bringing it up all the goddamn time (like I’ve been trying to tell you, but apparently you’re too stubborn to realize this) is ANNOYING. I’ve told you this multiple times before, but it seems that it hasn’t stuck in your head.
Also, I love how you said you were going to be mature and stop replying in your last post, but you decided to post a reply more than a month after the argument ended lol. Guess you really are the one who needs to get a life, huh? XD
