No Echidnas, Still Problems
For those who aren’t subscribers, today is the day you’ll see Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog #245 begin trickling into newsstands and comic book stores.
This issue marks part three of the Endangered Species arc, now widely controversial for the way it appeared to write out many beloved secondary characters, including many whose ownership were contested when Archie Comics sued former Sonic writer Ken Penders. At last check, that case still appears to be in a settlement phase.
In the meantime, Knuckles continues to fight Thrash in an effort to save the deposed echidnas, while a recharged Metal Knuckles appears to have his evil eyes set on Sonic.
Take a look at the cover and the first five pages of Sonic #245, courtesy of IGN. We would normally precede that with a synopsis, but it appears the latest information we have on file does not account for the last-minute changes applied to this arc.

At least Metal Knuckles is back…
at least the krudzu is still around..
At least…no this comic just sucks
Has it been pointed out before that Thrash is probably a stand in for Ken Penders at least for just this story. He get’s rid of a bunch of Ken created characters, “JUSTICE IS SERVED” and one of his weapons is his loud mouth.
Love the comics, feel bad for knuckles, but love what happens in the end of this issue. Or the fact Sonic tells metal knuckles he is full of fail xD
@SpiritOfTheBlue
“Full of fail” is that the exact quote?
If so
This once-promising arc has been nothing short of atrocious. If this is the kind of crap I have to look forward to every month then I don’t think I want to read this comic anymore.
@The Shadow Emperor
Seriously, dude? Seriously? The full issue of Sonic at the Olympic Games was atrocious. But, this? Seriously…?
Why do I have the feeling that you only feel that way because we know what the arc was originally going to be?
I’m so sick of everyone behaving like spoiled brats. Ian needs to just keep the fans out of the loop from now on, as far as things behind-the-scenes are concerned. That way, people won’t be able to whine over “the plots that never were”.
I think fans are too busy being distracted by the “what-ifs” and “what-was-supposed-to-happens” to really focus on the actual story itself, as it now is.
Many positive things:
– Thrash returned at got developed some more.
– We’re given some key backstory on the comic’s universe
– Knuckles finally gets another arc that focuses on him, and we get to see just how powerful and driven he is.
– The arc gives even more of a sense of anxiousness and tenseness, because we legitimately DO NOT know what’s to become of the Echidnas.
– And, Shard turns up.
A lot of good stuff here. People need to stop being so damn negative.
And kudos to Tristan for not putting too much of an opinionated spin on the story this time around. This article actually felt like a piece of legitimate journalism for a change, which is surprising.
