Double Fine’s Latest Holds Weight
There is good news on the front of Sega’s digital strategy. The Major Nelson blog this week released the latest XBOX Live sales data from last week, and it shows Double Fine’s The Cave, a Sega publication, near the apex of the top 20 list.
The game charted 3rd for the week. That’s more impressive when you consider the game was in its second week of release, and it shows the puzzle/adventure title may have some legs in the weeks and months ahead.
Another title that has proven it has legs continues to have a strong showing on XBOX Live. Sonic Adventure 2 continues to sell in the middle of the pack, charting 11th for the week. We are now approaching four full months straight where SA2 has made its mark in the XBLA top 20.
No other Sega titles made the top 20.

I was REALLY disappointed with The Cave, especially being a fan of Ron Gilbert’s older stuff, but I’m still glad it’s doing well. I just think the backtracking ruined it.
Nice to see SA2 doing as well as I expected.
My settlements are the same for Sonic Adventure 2′s repeated commercial success. When it really comes down to it, anyone nowadays who recognizes the face of Sonic the Hedgehog usually attributes it to Sonic Adventure 2 and anyone who has played a modern Sonic game probably bought and owned or picked up and rented Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast or Gamecube. And, the positive vibes they got then, either with the to-the-point two-player mode, the replayability in the level ranking and Chao Garden, or the character and attitude expressed in the storyline or the pop culture mix of music and art design, naturally struck a note again with them. Put in another way, there was no question it was going to be a success and, seen now in that light, it now probably has sales numbers not too far off from that of the Sonic CD re-release.
I loved this game. I know there were back tracking issues, but it still was very charming!
