The Spotlight’s on Sally
Today, Archie Comics released a full preview for the latest entry in the Sonic Select graphic novel series.
The newest edition, volume seven, had a bit of a row attached to it earlier last year, when it was revealed a disputed character from the Ken Penders era, Geoffrey St. John, was replaced on the front cover by Espio. It appears that revised cover is the final one that went to print, but the stories inside have remained untouched. Good thing too for the Sally Acorn fans among us, because this is a Sally-centered issue that re-assembles the character’s original mini-series from 1995, among other stories.
Take a look at the cover and pages 114 through 118 of Sonic Select Volume 7 after reading Archie’s formal synopsis.

Not bad.
At least Espio gets to be on the cover since he was left off Sonic Selects issue 2, while Vector and Mighty got all the glory. I never liked Geoffrey St. John, but now that we may never see him again, I’m a little sad.
I remember when I first read that St. John had been replaced on the cover with Espio, I always thought it was weird. Looking over the contents of this book, Espio doesn’t really appear much except in issue 222. It’s a decent cover-up, but they could have just as easily moved/flipped Sonic to stand next to Knuckles and Amy and had Sally at the top (or vice versa). It is funny though, despite that Ken Penders is claiming copyright over much of the contents in this book (with the exception of 222, all the other stories are written by Penders, ha), they’re still being re-printed like it’s no big deal… why not just leave St. John in the first place?
Well, whatever, guess I might have to pick this up before Penders tries to mess with the shipments again.
