A Rolling Start for the Modern Gaming Era

With exactly seven hundred backers to show for it, Antonis Pelekanos saw the end of his Kickstarter for his latest 3D project, The 90s Arcade Racer, on Sunday with a total of £16,039 raised.  That’s nearly $25,000 in US money.

You may remember Pelekanos, known to most as Pelikan13 as one of the minds behind the short-lived Sonic Fan Remix project.  The idea behind SFR was to re-imagine classic Sonic stages in 2.5D with superb attention to graphic detail.  Only one formal demo, of Emerald Hill, was ever released.

“I’m in a very good position and have everything I need to finish the game. Thank you all so much!” Pelekanos wrote in a Friday update.

In response to such overwhelming support for Arcade Racer, Pekelanos also confirmed in his Friday update a total of eight playable cars, as well as three tracks with two routes each, playable in normal and reverse mode during day or nighttime.  A basic Arcade and Championship mode will now be included in the finished product for all car classes, as will leaderboards, and drift points.

The 90s Arcade Racer is tentatively expected on PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U, iOS, and Android devices.  We’ll be sure to keep tabs on its development as it progresses.
