Logo Artwork and Some Details Inside
It appears Sega has officially released details about Sonic Dash, the follow-up to Sonic Jump produced by UK studio Hardlight.
The thing is, a Sega Press alert issued early this morning turned up little, though it appears a couple sites like Pocket Gamer have picked up information from their own release channels. There are no screenshots available of the game, and no exact details on how the game mechanics will work, but time and distance attack challenges are being implemented to share with friends, according to PG.
Some logo artwork is available to review. That’s in the gallery below, courtesy of Pocket Gamer’s French division, after Sega’s press release. When we know more, so will you.

This is cool for iOS owners but Sonic’s smile looks really off.
“Our spikey hero goes on a fast and frenzied 3D dash through the stunning grassy verges of Seaside Hill. ”
Hang on… that is a perfect description of the DS tech demo…
…this IS coming to Android devices, right?
I am mildly excited for the title, though. When I muster up enough greenbacks to get Jump, I’ll look into this too, assuming it’s coming to Droid (which would only make sense, as that would put some more change in Sega’s back pocket). Also, I wonder if there will be more stages than just Seaside Hill.
The top comment here is a perfect example of why this fanbase is impossible to please and entirely screwed up.
@Viking ZX: How does that say “impossible to please”? QuietGuy just said Sonic’s smile looks a tad wonky. That doesn’t scream “entitled fan who isn’t happy with anything”, at least not to me.
“Our spikey hero goes on a fast and frenzied 3D dash through the stunning grassy verges of Seaside Hill. Challenge your friends to run as far into the hill as you can and beat their best times!”
Sonic DS? So SEGA is making money by selling a tech demo from 2005. That’s neat but a cheap move.
Is his mouth getting bigger by the year?
I’m just wondering who it is at Sega that is infatuated with Seaside Hill…it must have been reused more times than any other Sonic level by now >.<
What is up with Seaside Hill being in almost every game. Is Sega obsessed with it, or is it the most wanted by the public?
Seaside Hill IS one of my favorite stages in the series, but really? How many games has it been in now? Heroes, Generations, the Olympics, heck, it showed up on a Sonic themed Monopoly board!
I don’t have a problem with it (I mean, this is just a tiny iOS title, not something SEGA claims will be the greatest piece of media to ever grace the planet…), but I gotta ask. Who the heck likes Seaside Hill THAT much!?
I would really appreciate if Sega would STOP using assets from Green Hill and Seaside Hill for new games. It comes off as lazy. Draw some new textures for your games… new voice clips for Sonic too! Stop recycling!
Seaside hill is the new Green hill.
But seriously, it’s just tiring now. Hopefully there will be other stages!
@Amuro
Also Sonic Generations, Sonic Heroes, Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, and Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. Seaside Hill is the de-facto 3D hill stage now it probably helps they have bucketloads of art and model assets for it now.
@Viking ZX
Sonic’s mouth tending to look bizarre in CG renders these past couple years is something even non fans notice and mock. The problem is that they made his teeth and gums look either deformed or his teeth float freely around his mouth, here’s how it should look

And even this similar piece from Unleashed

@Nick
It’s a Temple Run inspired infinite runner with tilt and swipe controls not scribbling madly on the screen to show people at E3 2004 what the DS is capable of.
@Vultorus
Should have been Rooftop Run (get it) I want randomly spawning clock towers to grind down at crazy camera angles.
I’d rather see Rooftop Run to be honest. Seaside Hill was beautiful and had a great layout in Generations, but come on. Seaside Hill even made it into BOTH Sonic All Stars games. Why? Less money to develop a level when you already have HD textures for the stage.
Personally, I’m gonna hold off on getting excited until I see some footage of the game. That and I’m still waiting for any news of the next console Sonic game.
@QuietGuy92, your username is a little off too. For a quiet guy you’re sure a loudmouth.
Reusing sonic 4 eye potion, it looks like a noobie tried to position sonic. What happened to the awesome model art unleashed had? I’ve seen people on deviantart make better renders..
They could of at least use city escape running away from that crazy truck would of been awesome
Sigh
“Just what I wanted from SEGA! Another copy-paste flash game from them instead of their next retail game!” – said nobody ever
The return of Green hill 2.0! XD
MM2- Are you….Haku?
@VikingZX
Calm down. All I said was that Sonic’s smile looked off. Does it mean I want the game to suck? No. I’ve seen people praise the hell out of Sonic Jump and many are looking forward to its sequel. Impossible to please? Give me a break.
@Amuro
Thanks for the back-up.
@MM2
We get it. You hate Sonic to be on the iOS. We get it.
Personally I am really excited for this, I was saying to some friends not long back that after the Sonic Doodle Jump they should do a Sonic Temple Run and here it is! Very excited, this will hold me over until the new Sonic announcement which I imagine will be late March/early April!
I hope that Seaside hill isn’t the only level to play on. It would be cool if when you reach certain distances you start to do different thing and go into different levels. Kinda like what Pitfall iOS does.
Seaside Hill ? ??! FUCK
Damn I thought we were getting City Escape
Is it me or do Sonic’s hands look really weird supinated like that when he’s running? They would look a lot more natural turned the other way.
Seaside Hill confirms Sonic Heroes 2!!….Sorry I was seeing what it felt like to be an Adventure fan assuming every little thing is a confirmation of a new game in *insert favorite series here*
Seaside Hill……. well, better than another Green Hill.
Most likely they’ll release new levels periodically as DLC, just like with Jump. Hopefully as with Jump it’s free.
@Super Tails: How so? Seaside Hill is essentially the lovechild of Green Hill and Emerald Coast.
@Nuzamaki: That would’ve been cool, but ehh. Maybe it’ll be a future stage.
It’s already confirmed in previous posts that the locations will change as you progress through the game. So calm your tits, people.
Also, the rendering.. like.. wow.
Dude Seriously, I’m calling it. It’s gotta be that 2004 DS Tech Demo reworked.
Just look at that freaking image!
Hopefully it’ll come to Droid. That’s the only way I’ll be able to play it.
And, not to be an overly-picky Sonic fan… but the more I look at that model, the worse and worse… and the more creepy… it becomes. Like, look at the right side of his mussel. On the right-most side of his head… it looks like it’s not even attached…
And then there are the afore-mentioned arm & hand positions and the TOTALLY derpy mouth. I’m kinda shocked, actually. SEGA’s Sonic renders usually look REALLY stinkin’ good.
I guess this proves the rumors of sonic getting a new look false
@Tjfox – The possible new look information said it’s a 2014 reboot, not 2013.
okay I can’t take it anymore…LMAO I can’t help it…http://fav.me/d50e4p7 That person just speaks volumes lolz.
@SuperTails
Whatever! Green Hill over Seaside Hill any day. They reuse Seaside Hill in EVERYTHING!!! It just shows how extraordinarily lazy and unimaginative they are!
his mouth is getting bigger plus it looks funny and cant it be another stage like rooftop run or somat
Just got an old 3rd gen. iPod Touch, so I can finally play Sonic Jump, which wouldn’t run on my 2nd gen. (Nothing really does…) Hopefully I’ll be able to play Sonic Dash as well.
@Jmack: Using Seaside Hill in a few games is lazy and bad, but using Green Hill in almost as many games is perfectly fine, right?
@MM2: Nobody’s desperate to see a game be released for the iOS, but it’s there to give fans a fix while they [SEGA] work on a bigger console title. Seriously, where do people get this idea that SEGA (or most other game companies) work on one game at a time?
I bet Ken Balough is going to be hooked on Sonic Dash, jumping over obstacles all day long… on the other hand, I think that there will be some complaints because of the game’s overuse of automation
@Amuro: I don’t know, it’s probably because I haven’t yet played Sonic Heroes, that I don’t mind Seaside Hill as much as Green Hill, at this point. That, and Seaside Hill looks a bit more pleasing to me, from an aesthetic standpoint, even though I know they are very similar.
How many recent games have they used Green Hill Zone Amuro? Don’t worry…I’m waiting…
@Jmack: You want to know how many other times Green Hill was used outside of Sonic 1? Okay, let’s see… Pulling up the list of level themes in Sonic Retro…
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Drift
Generations HD/3DS
Sonic Blast
Sonic Chronicles
Sonic Jump
Sonic 2 GG… technically
Sonic Blast
Samba de Amigo Wii
Sega Splash Golf
I guess Sonic Advance 1 and 3 technically count…
Sonic Battle
Sega Superstars Tennis
…and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
…so yeah, that’s over TEN times.
And let’s see how many times Seaside Hill was used, not counting it’s original incarnation in Sonic Heroes and not counting Sonic Dash, as it has not been released at the time of this post.
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing
Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic Generations HD
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
So, included with the original level from Heroes and it’s future appearance in Dash, that’s barely over half the times Green Hill was featured in a Sega product. I understand Green Hill is an iconic level, since it’s pretty much Sonic’s World 1-1, but if you want to say that they’re using some random stage aside from GHZ too many times, all I have to do is mention Green Hill.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned his weird leg, it looks like it’s folded underneath his body..like squishy paper? The arm placement is so weird, it’s too high. I think the marketing team is high
this better be better than sonic rush & adventures mini games or else I’m not sold.
@Amuro
Oooh…you got me there lol. I didn’t realize how many times they used it. Regardless I still prefer Green Hill over Seaside Hill. And I never said if they used Green Hill then it’s okie dokie, NO they’d still be lazy and unimaginative! Lol
