How One Small Adventure May Continue
It’s easy to spot the obsession many fans have with the Sonic Adventure franchise, even though it’s been years since Sonic Adventure 2 was released. One of the smaller but more involved portions of the game was the Chao Garden, where players could raise and interact with wide varieties of the virtual species. For many, it is an almost hypnotic experience. So we’re surprised it took this long for someone to try and re-create the garden from scratch.
One fan posting to Sonic Fan Games HQ last week, known as Gigabowzer and on Youtube as Gregg Schaffter, will attempt just that. Chao Garden Online is planned as a 3D environment with multiplayer capabilities. A preview can be found below. While it’s not the prettiest 3D we’ve seen, bear in mind this is early in development and is being built from scratch. Schaffter says he plans to include all the features from Sonic Adventure 2‘s Chao Garden, and more.
The running joke with this community and fan games is that the games never get finished. We suspect there would be more than a few hopeful this project advances and sees a proper release. We will let you know how things move forward with Chao Garden Online in the future.

That Chao is scary.
I think if SEGA took to smartphones with the Chao Garden formula, added some move varied games perhaps, they would have a real winner on their hands.
Oh god. That creepy stalking chao. That lighting. That movement. That terrain. Those basic 3dsmax objects slapped with a stock green texture. So far what we’ve seen is… wow. I doubt that it’s gonna get any worse than this but we’ll see… at least I hope we’ll do.
Well I guess I’m need to give ‘em so slack. What they got going is obviously an early early alpha (at least that’s what I hope it is) So g’ luck, Gregg.
hmmmm this might be just the educational experience I need to get the jest of how to raise them properly lol. I never took the time to completely learn it lolz.
Uncanny valley!
…Should also be the name of the level.

This!
Looks like crap but I LOVE Chao, and am amazed that they quit making the stuff. Would play this game if its as addicting, regardless of visuals.
Someone mentioned mobile … Chao mobile would have all my money. Just sayin. It makes sense.
I STILL say SEGA needs to make a Chao Garden App. I been sayin it for a long time now!
I want Chao in Space on DVD+Blu Ray!
Forget Tails Doll, look at this thing!
Slenderchao.
This is a neat idea, and it’s nice to see that it’s happening. It has my interest, I wish you all the best Gregg
