“What About the Future,” Some Fans Ask
Last October’s re-release of the original Jet Set Radio on XBOX 360, Playstation 3 and PC was met with rather modest success. But relayed to us via a Twitter tip is word of a new petition established to convince Sega that a modern port of the follow-up game, Jet Set Radio Future, is also a good idea.
“Jet Set Radio Future was a fantastic game, receiving high scores from many critics, and an 87 Metacritic score. It was released on February 25, 2002, and was regarded as one of the best Xbox games released,” reads the petition. “I am aware that the game did not sell very well, was often ignored. With a release on the Playstation Network, SEGA has the potential to make more money from it. It will also please SEGA fans who loved the game on Xbox, and no longer own one.”
The petition is seeking 1,010 signature. As of this article, it only has 62. Sega clearly is aware of the power of social media’s voice, channeling it in a recent stunt that gauged interest in a Westernization of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, so perhaps a campaign like this can find some success if properly supported.

I’m tired of seeing this. Petition? Do people realize what the point of a petition is? You don’t create petitions when you just want a company to release a game. They are meant for important issues which is why they’re generally incorperated into legal and other outstanding issues. Not things like “I really want Shenmue 3 SEGA! I’m going to make a petition!”
@Don A petition can be used for other issues too. The definition of the word is “A formal written request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority with respect to a particular cause.” While this may not be a written request, which would never get noticed by the way, it is still formal and asking SEGA to take it into consideration. Petitions can be used for anything, not just important or legal matters. kthxbai.
Now, I think this is a fantastic idea. I loved this game so much, and it’d be awesome to see it re-released. It definitely deserves a second chance on the market.
Not raising my hopes up for this but I already signed, hope it happens, it would be also good for Sega.
@Don
They are useful if they are targeted at companies that listen to fans so yeah, it’s worth it.
I knew those responses were coming. Yes a petition is designed to ask for something and showing followers of it but it seems like every thing that isn’t given turns into a petition in the gaming world. It’s childish and ungrateful and flat out silly that something designed for serious matters is being used to humbly beg for entertainment. I guess I’m old fashioned in that sense. I guess the thing that gets me riled up is that I see this for a lot of things that aren’t important at all and nothing more than just fans never being pleased. If they release it great. If not oh well.
Hey Don.
If you’re so fucking old fashioned why are you here? Go back inside old man, and let those of us that want to try getting JSRF on consoles/Steam be.
I didn’t know someone would be so offended because I think people are never content. I said old fashioned in “that sense” and I’m not against the game being released on newer consoles. I just think petitioning for it is silly when what will get SEGA to release it is sales of Jet Set Radio and not a obscure petition. No need for profanity.
Personally i would rather see Skies of Arcadia get the HD re-release treatment before JSRF. But then again, I’m just *counts fingers*…one man.
Great, I hope this becomes a success and maybe later we can get a new Jet Set Radio game coming.
Great, I hope this becomes a success. I say the more people speak out and show their interest the better. Maybe a rerelease could happen next year and maybe later we can get a new Jet Set Radio game in the future.
Crap now why did the comment get set up twice. :\
Honestly, i didn’t like Jet Set Radio Future. I thought compared to the first one, the controls were irritating, music bad and new character designs kinda lame.
If people want JSRF then they should support JSR.
Well the NiGHTS into Dreams petition seemed to have worked out pretty well, I don’t see why this wouldn’t.
My only concern is if it will be XBLA exclusive like how the original was Xbox exclusive. My sister’s Xbox no longer works/we no longer have it, and our original JSRF/GT 2002 disc is beyond messed up. I for one would love to see it on PSN.
Instead of this, can we see Sonic 3 and Knuckles get rereleased in HD and 16:9 widescreen, like Sonic CD was?!?!
