Sega Laughing All the Way to the Bank

Sonic may have nothing to do with this story, but he’s just as shocked as anyone given that despite the incredible backlash and controversy surrounding the released state of Aliens: Colonial Marines, it was a top 10 seller in the US last month.

That is according to official data released yesterday by the NPD Group, which ranked A:CM 6th overall in the multiplatform top 10 charts.  The game becomes the first Sega title in a good while to break the domestic top 10.

Elsewhere in the NPD data is news that the XBOX 360 sold over 300,000 systems last month, with PS3 not far behind at more than 260,000 units sold.  Nintendo’s Wii U, however, is quite far behind, with only 66,000 units estimated sold in February.

The data was released after markets closed Thursday, so it’s worth noting that as of this article’s publication, Sega’s domestic stock for the trading day today is up more than four and a quarter percent, to $4.90 a share.
