Sega Finally Comments on Disaster
Shortly after we picked up on that piece from Germany concerning Aliens: Colonial Marines‘s potential cancellation on Wii U, an unnamed Sega representative confirmed to multiple major news outlets the game will not make it on to Nintendo’s latest system.
Outlets like Kotaku just received this brief statement from Sega on the matter:
We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.
The news comes on the heels of an outright denial the game was cancelled from Sega Europe offices back in February, when the uproar over the state of Aliens: CM was just beginning to ferment.
Though welcomed by many fans, Aliens CM was a major project for Sega, and missing one system means missing revenue that may reflect when Sega Sammy Holdings issues its FY2013 earnings statement. Furthermore, for all the flak the game has received since release, indications are that the game did sell well in its first month on store shelves.
We will continue to investigate the cause behind this sudden shift and bring you anything more we learn from behind the scenes.
