Big Blue Shows Ninty Lots of Love
Sega plans a total of thirteen releases in the coming fiscal year on Nintendo systems, including seven on Wii U and three of those before the end of September, according to data from their latest earnings report.
Sega has been fairly mum on their upcoming releases, so the three Wii U releases planned before September in particular are intriguing. There’s no word on how those releases would drop, be it physical or through the eShop. The remaining four planned SKUs would be released after then, presumably in time for the Holiday season. It is possible that one or perhaps two of those releases in the event of a special edition could involve Bayonetta 2, the Sega licensed Wii U exclusive.
On the 3DS side, six SKUs are planned for the portable in FY2014, but none of them before September, according to the statement. No SKUs are planned for the Nintendo DS.
Elsewhere, seven releases are planned on the Playstation 3 with the most sales expected there. The XBOX 360 has four SKUs to look forward to, while eleven releases are coming to the PC this year. Sega is also developing for next generation systems, but those are not accounted for in this report.
A new Sonic should be among those releases, but if nothing else, the heavy support for Nintendo–especially given how the WiiU version of Aliens: Colonial Marines was cancelled–is a good sign. Sega and in particular Sonic games do perform better on Nintendo systems. Once we know what those games are, we will let you know about them. Thanks to Matriculated for tipping us.
