A Little Hacking Goes A Long Way
This week, we’re putting the spotlight on one of the few full-blooded hacks of Sonic CD out there: Sonic CD++. Created by community members qiuu and snkenjoi back in 2009, Sonic CD++ adds in several features from other popular games in the series, including the Homing Attack and, much like the newest official port of the game, the more flexible Spin Dash from Sonic 2. It also includes various other improvements, such as the removal of the air speed cap and the ability for Mini Sonic to Spin Dash. Impressively, the entire hack was completed within a week, and development occurred without any major utilization of a disassembly of the original game.
We have included a few screenshots of the hack below. You can read more about Sonic CD++ and download it at its page on Sonic Retro. As always, we’re on the lookout for fan works to spotlight, so if you have a project you want the world to know about, send us a link at firstname.lastname@example.org!
